After a routine heist, two-bit car thief Artie Fowler (Mark Alaimo) is killed in cold blood. Kojak suspects that there's something bigger than a standard robbery going on--especially after Artie's girlfriend Maria (Lara Parker) lets slip that an upcoming "caper" will make fools of the authorities. It turns out that a $500,000 heist is in the works, masterminded by mob leader Hugh Jellicoe (Paul Lambert) and an unknown party whose theatrical bravado astonishes even the professional crooks. The FBI suspects a case of jury tampering when, after the acquittal of notorious mob figure, juror Steven Harber (Robert Hooks) suddenly becomes conspicuously wealthy. Eventually, Harber's conscience kicks in, but it may already be too late. Not only is Harber being shaken down by a blackmailer who witnessed the payoff, but there is also a mob hitman at large who has killed two other jurors in his efforts to make sure that no one talks. Broke again, Bart (Jack Kelly) accepts a job from rancher Cal Powers (Andrew Duggan), hauling ice from the nearby mountains. While on the job, Bart comes upon a corpse, frozen beneath the surface of an icy river. This discovery will prove to have dire consequence for our hero, thanks largely to villainous machinous of political boss Rath Lawson, played by Bruce Gordon in the same manner as the actor's interpretation of mobster Frank Nitti on The Untouchables. The heroine of the occasion is Shirley Knight, who went on to a stellar stage, film and TV career, including such memorable roles as the mother of Helen Hunt in the 1997 Jack Nicholson theatrical feature As Good as It Gets. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

Missing for two years and presumed dead, hard-hearted businessman Hartley Bassett (Thomas B. Henry) suddenly returns and begins make everyone's life miserable all over again, especially his wife Sybil (Peggy Converse). After he fires his heir apparent Peter Dawson (Philip Ober), Bassett is murdered and Dawson is accused. Perry Mason (Raymond Burr) is approached by two eyewitnesses, Richard Hart (a young Robert Redford) and his wife Teddi (Cindy Robbins), who can prove that Bassett is innocent. There are only two problems: each witness claims that a different person is the guilty party--and both witnesses abuptly vanish just before the trial!
