This leads to a considerable amount of friction between Topanga and Cory, who complains that by becoming the primary breadwinner, Topanga has "killed" his spirit! The arrival of her father forces Angela (Trina McGee-Davis) to confront the real reason that she does not want to get back together with Shawn (Rider Strong)--and it has something to do with "like mother, like daughter." Cory (Ben Savage) and Topanga (Danielle Fishel) play a "compatability" game--and surprise, surprise, they find that they aren't all that compatable. The only solution to this problem is for the couple to move in together and get more accustomed to one another--which turns out to be a major mistake, thanks to a million-and-one idiosyncracies and bad habits. Meanwhile, Jack (Matthew Lawrence) tries to hide his grief over the death of his dad Chet, so as not to increase the emotional burden on his half-brother Shawn (Rider Strong). Shawn (Rider Strong) is down in the dumps after receiving a letter from his mom Virna, informing him that she isn't his real birth mother. Having overloaded himself with tough courses for his freshman year at Pennbrook, Cory (Ben Savage) soon buckles under the pressure and runs off to Wyoming, there to seek advice and solace from his retired high school teacher Mr. Feeny (William Daniels). The visit has a profound effect on Feeny, who decides that retirement isn't all it's cracked up to be. Boy Meets World takes a break from several weeks' worth of angst over the romance between Cory (Ben Savage) and Topanga (Danielle Fishel) with this wild-and-wooly takeoff of the popular horror flick Scream (which was something of a takeoff itself). While Cory (Ben Savage) and his friends are serving weekend detention, a shrouded killer begins picking the students off one by one. Everyone panics but Shawn (Rider Strong), who has seen enough scary movies to figure out what will happen next--at least until Mr. Feeny (William Daniels) turns up murdered as well! A frustrated Mr. Feeny (William Daniels) threatens to flunk Cory (Ben Savage), Shawn (Rider Strong) and Topanga (Danielle Fishel) unless they try to meet a set of personal "perseverance" goals he has established. Shawn's goal would seem to be the most unattainable: he is to locate two Super Bowl tickets with Cory's help--and without Topanga butting in! Topanga (Danielle Fishel) and Angela (Trina McGee-Davis) get jobs at a Mexican restaurant, a fact that Cory and Shawn learn to their embarrassment when they make fools of themselves ordering dinner. It gets worse when the girls go out dancing with their handsome coworkers Nunzio (Jonathan Del Arco) and Sergio (Matt Sedeno). Jonathan (Anthony Tyler Quinn, in his final series appearance) is worried that the new group of friends that Shawn (Rider Strong) is hanging around with are members of a cult. Shawn hotly denies this, but the evidence is overwhelming--especially the manipulative machinations of the group's leader Mr. Mack (Jerry Levine). Now that he's an intern at a local TV station, Eric (Will Friedle) is devoting so much time and energy to the job that his grades (none too good to begin with) are suffering. In fact, if Eric doesn't start buckling down, there's a strong possibility that he won't graduate. Problem is, Eric doesn't care at this point: he quits school to pursue his lifelong dream of being a meterorologist, blissfully unaware that a job of this nature requires at the very least a high school diploma! Veteran funnymen Buddy Hackett and Soupy Sales guest star as a pair of disreputable-looking businessmen named Fontini and Martin. Hired to run errands for the two men, Cory (Ben Savage) quickly figures out that they're a pair of crooks and quits his job. Alas, Shawn (Rider Strong) is only too willing to pick up where Cory left off--and the results could be VERY hazardous to his health. To keep Virna (Shareen Mitchell) from walking out on him again, Chet (Blake Clark) agrees to look for work. He ends up as janitor at Adams High School, causing great mortification for his son Shawn (Rider Strong)--who begs Mr. Feeny (William Daniels) to fire Chet, little realizing the consequences of his actions. Consulting the school's new guidance counselor Devon (Amy Leland), Shawn (Rider Strong) explains that he's not trying harder because he's not going to college, so what's the use? In an effort to show she understands what he's going through, Devon replies that she once felt the same way and decided to take time to consider her future, which she did during a trip to Europe. Unfortunately, Shawn hears only the "trip to Europe" part and begins drawing up plans to run off to Paris! In other developments, former school bully Harley (Danny McNulty) busts out of reform school for a showdown with the heir to his "throne", Griff Hawkins (Adam Scott); trouble is, no one cares. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
Cory (Ben Savage) isn't too concerned when he accidentally loses the silver boxing-glove bracelet given to him by his dad Alan (William Russ) as a birthday present. But his attitude abruptly changes when he finds out that Alan had won the bracelet in a Navy boxing tournament, and thus the trinket is lot more "valuable" than first imagined. High school freshman Cory (Ben Savage) is the only male amongst his peers who hasn't got a girlfriend. Older brother Eric (Will Friedle), who fancies himself wiser and more worldly in these matters, advises Cory to adopt a love-'em-and-leave-'em approach and ask out a girl he doesn't even know. Having promised not to give his students a test on The Grapes of Wrath if they promise to study the book and give proof that they understand it, Mr. Turner (Anthony Tyler Quinn) breaks his promise under pressure from Mr. Feeny (William Daniels). Outraged, Cory (Ben Savage) and Shawn (Rider Strong) emulate the Steinbeck novel by going into full "social protest" mode, spearheading a student strike--only to go too far as usual by making ridiculous demands. Predictably, Feeny retaliates, but by episode's end everyone has learned a lesson (tied in with the assigned book, of course). Meanwhile, Eric has trouble maintaining both his friendship with Jason (Jason Marsden) and his romance with manipulative Southern belle Desiree ($Sydney Bennett). ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
With two girlfriends too many--namely Linda (Haylie Johnson) and Stacy (Molly Morgan)--Shawn (Rider Strong) suggests that he and Cory (Ben Savage) take turns dating them. Cory is merely to act as Shawn's "beard", while Shawn tries to decide which girl he really wants. Unfortunately, the girl Shawn prefers wants nothing to do with him--but Cory is crazy about her. Underachiever Cory (Ben Savage) and nerdy Minkus (Lee Norris) manage to make the school's basketball team--not the "A" squad, of course, but the "B" group. Alas, having been relegated to second-class-citizen status, the boys may never get into an actual game. . .and worse, Cory begins to feel like a "B-Team" member of his own family.
