Johann Urb Movies
A native of Talinn, Estonia, and the son of Estonian pop musician Tarmo Urb (of the Urb Brothers fame), model-cum-actor Johann Urb immigrated to Finland with his parents at the age of ten, and spent the remainder of his childhood in that country. Urb subsequently moved to New York City, where he modeled on a contract with the Ford Agency and formally studied drama at the prestigious Lee Strasberg Institute. The actor took one of his first feature bows in 2006, with a small supporting role opposite Dominique Swain (Lolita) in the gambling drama All In; that same year, he also essayed a lead in actor/director Brad Jurjens' gritty, direct-to-video action thriller The Bank Job. Urb achieved his most prominent Hollywood billing, however, two years later, in the Paris Hilton/Christine Lakin gross-out comedy The Hottie & the Nottie (2008). He had a role in the apocalyptic disaster movie 2012 in 2009, and that same year he was cast in the short-lived TV series Eastwick. Not to be confused with director Roger Donaldson's 2008 crime thriller of the same name, this action-driven heist film follows a recently released convict and his criminally inclined best friend as they execute a daring daytime bank robbery. Kenny isn't the kind to rest on his laurels when it comes to committing crimes, so the moment he's paroled he partners with his old cohort Brandon to rob a local bank. But while the crafty pair does manage to bag the money, Brandon takes a bullet before they can make their big escape. After stealing a cheery red Mustang to outrun the cops, Kenny and Brandon open the trunk and get a big surprise. A medical student with mounting debts draws on her formidable poker skills in order to stay afloat in this gambling drama starring Dominique Swain and Michael Madsen. As a young girl, Alicia "Ace" Anderson (Swain) frequently accompanied her card shark father (Madsen) to clandestine gambling rooms for tense rounds of Texas Hold 'Em. As a result of her childhood spent watching her father fleece his opponents, Alicia became a fairly exceptional card player herself. These days Alicia has left behind the world of gambling in order to focus on medical school, but education doesn't come cheap and the tuition fees are fast piling up. Of course the one way that Alicia knows how to make a quick buck is to fall back on her old skills, and now with a bottomed out bank account and few options on the table the savvy student gambler enlists the aid of some fellow students in hitting it big at the local casino. Though her cohorts may be well schooled in the art of the bluff, this team will need much more than a good poker face if they truly intend to win out over some of the world's best card players. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi
