Scripter Alvaro del Amo and director Vicente Aranda adapted this Spanish film from Fernando G. Delgado's prize-winning novel. The story follows the psychosexual experiments of upper-middle-class consultant Begona (Laura Morante). Japanese businessmen arrive in Madrid to test a palm-size video gadget called "The Owl," and Begona uses it as both a confessional and a method of capturing her curves on tape. She accepts the challenge of biker Elio (Jose Corando) to go into a rough section of Madrid and let herself get gang-raped, but a more respectable life also beckons on other fronts. Shown at the 1998 Berlin Film Festival. ~ Bhob Stewart, All Movie Guide

In this sex farce, two eccentric manufacturing families from far-flung regions of Spain have come to Madrid in order to try and influence a government ministry's decision about who will make a particular set of Army uniforms. The man of the house, in one of the families, has married into it purely as a business arrangement. His current extramarital arrangement is with the family company's lovely female lawyer. Meanwhile, his decidedly odd wife has been experiencing sexual ecstasies while reading self-help books, and her sister has been passing the years by longing for the return of an old lover, a political radical she lost track of years ago. It turns out that the former radical is now the government minister they all hope to influence, and the minister's assistant is intensely interested in his old flame, the sister. The competing family head is also pursuing the sister in the other family, under the mistaken impression that she is the adulterous lawyer. Meanwhile, a transformation is taking place with the do-it-yourself addicted wife. ~ Clarke Fountain, All Movie Guide

With shoddy production values and a plot that seems to be more of an excuse for violence than anything else, this underpar drama focuses on vigilante justice. While trying to cross the border into France, a Spanish truck driver's vehicle is burned by two angry French farmers, killing the driver's wife. Unable to win his case against the men in court, the angry driver vows to avenge the death of his wife by killing the farmers and their sleazy lawyer. It may have helped to know that European farmers were irate at this time about the dumping of their produce. But then, education was not an objective here. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, All Movie Guide

In a semi-erotic film almost universally lamented, Bo Derek, last wife of the late John Derek (who wrote, directed, and photographed Bolero), plays Ayre, a virginal young woman who, on graduating from an exclusive British boarding school, is determined to find the right man for her first sexual encounter wherever he might be in the world. Rich enough not to venture forth alone, she brings along her friend Catalina (Ana Obregon) and the family chauffeur (George Kennedy). Ayre first travels to an Arab country where she meets an ideal lover, a sheik (Greg Bensen) who offers to deflower her but falls asleep almost immediately (he was, after all, reciting lines from this script). Giving up on the sheik, Ayre goes on to Spain, where she meets the toreador Angel (Andrea Occhipinti) who is even better than the sheik because he manages to stay awake. Unfortunately, after she has succeeded in her quest, the perils of Angel's profession are brought home when he is gored in a sensitive location -- the arena, of course. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, All Movie Guide

This story is ostensibly about a down-and out press agency in Madrid that is struggling to keep its last legs from buckling under when a young photographer snaps a picture of a corporate leader hurt in the foiled robbery of a massage parlor. From that premise, the story shifts to the personnel at the press agency itself, and in particular, the sometimes conflicted relationship between the photographer, his boss, and the boss's daughter. Before all this can be straightened out, the boss is in an elevator when its suspension cable is cut and it crashes multiple floors down. Does this mean the boss has actually died or is this rendition of the press agency and its leading characters a sub-plot in someone's fertile imagination? The final scenes hint at the answer. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, All Movie Guide

It will not be an easy task as the crowns are being held by a mad cultist. The second three dimensional collaboration between Tony Anthony, Gene Quintano, and director Ferdinando Baldi, this follow-up to Comin' at Ya! was not nearly as successful as their first outing. ~ Sandra Brennan, All Movie Guide

After cannibalizing Jules Verne's Journey to the Center of the Earth in his 1977 film Where Time Began, Spanish director Juan Piquer Simon returned to the author with this substandard retelling of Mysterious Island. The story concerns a shipwrecked group who discover natural wonders and a gold treasure on a dangerous island populated by dinosaurs and living seaweed. Terence Stamp is the bad guy. Supposedly the most expensive film made in Spain to that point, it has an admittedly strong genre cast including Peter Cushing, Paul Naschy, and Ian Sera, but is really a cheesy monster movie likely to appeal only to children too young to be critical of special effects. ~ Robert Firsching, All Movie Guide
