Known to numerous fans as Tim from the 1982 sex comedy Porky's, Cyril O'Reilly got his first big break in 1981 when he was cast as Bud Stamper in a made-for-TV adaptation of Splendor in the Grass. Marine fighter pilot Sykes (Cyril O'Reilly) and his three fellow pilots are on trial in a military court, accused of massacring innocent civilians in a fiery raid against South American drug smugglers. Sykes makes a plea bargain that keeps his men from prison, but in court, the politically motivated General Prescott (Alex Cord) reneges on the deal and sends them all to prison -- Sykes for life. The pilots escape the clutches of the feds, only to wind up as passengers on a commercial 747 flight that includes Prescott. Sykes and his men commandeer the plane, asking for $100 million in ransom. But they weren't counting on feisty flight attendant Kelly (Kim Oja) putting up quite the fight she does with a coffee pot, or the delivery by Stealth aircraft of Matt Marshall (Ice-T) and his elite counter-terrorist unit. Viewers should fasten their safety belts and place all weapons in the safety mode for landing.

Having witnessed a hate crime committed by a gang of white supremacists against a black law student, baker Matt Colletti (a pre-The ShieldMichael Chilkis) is too frightened to come forward and tell the authorities. It is up to Monica and Tess--disguised respectively as an assistant baker and a visiting preacher--to convince Matt to do the right thing. It takes some doing, but Matt finally takes a stand and provides testimony against the thugs. In this comedy drama, a winning lottery ticket gives four aspiring actors the chance of a lifetime. The quartet is first seen commiserating over the failure of their latest off-Broadway production in the Cottonwood Diner in Greenwich Village. To ease the sting of a scathing review, the four buy a lottery ticket and promise that they will use the wealth to make a film. Sure enough, they win $3 million. After viewing many popular hit movies including The Godfather, Rocky and When Harry Met Sally, they set to penning a highly derivative script. Trouble comes when one of them, a compulsive gambler, backs out and uses his share to bet the ponies. The remaining trio then bring in a new partner, the daughter of famed vaudevillian Danny Rose. After that they convince a relative to manage them and head off to solicit a hot young director. This exciting sci-fi thriller chronicles the further adventures of a 1943 sailor who is thrust into the mid 1980s during an experiment in time travel. Still stuck in his future, the sailor marries and starts a family. His wife dies, and afterward, he begins suffering blinding headaches. Worried, he goes to the scientist responsible for getting him to the future and learns that the scientist has again been toying with his invention. Once again the sailor is caught in a time warp and awakens to find himself several years in the future. By the early '90s, the world has changed dramatically. Now the U.S. is a military state. Once Teri Hatcher hit it big on the TV series Lois and Clark, several of her less memorable earlier projects began popping out of the woodwork. The R-rated The Cool Surface is listed as a 1993 film, but one wonders. Hatcher plays Dani Payson, a beautiful aspiring actress and neighbor to playwright Jarvis Scott (Robert Patrick). Jarvis observes Dani as she and her live-in lover alternately have sex and argue violently. He begins to have his own fantasies about Dani and is inspired to base one of his characters on her. The ambitious Dani finds out about his novel, then campaigns to win the lead in Scott's upcoming film. Cool Surface evidently wasn't cool enough to prevent certain well-proportioned members of the cast from baring all. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

This exercise in patriotic, high-tech action centers on a select group of Navy commandos and their battles against a Middle East terrorist group. This particular squadron is led by a pair of rivals: cocky, fiery Hawkins (Charlie Sheen) and stoic, unflappable Curran (Michael Biehn). When an anti-terrorist mission goes awry, allowing an enemy leader to escape with a supply of stolen American missiles, both men are certain that, given another chance, they can redeem themselves and the squad. Their rivalry plays out against a background of high-powered amphibious battles, allowing the film to revel in dangerous stunts and advanced weaponry. Joanne Whalley-Kilmer provides brief romantic relief as a journalist with important information, but the focus remains on the macho interplay between Hawkins and Curran. Co-written by former Navy Seal Chuck Pfarrer (with Gary Goldman), the film presents authentic details about the elite unit, but the bulk of Navy Seals tends to rely on familiar combat film conventions. Viewers seeking rapidly paced action sequences will not be disappointed, though other viewers may be less likely to overlook the predictable storyline and routine characters. ~ Judd Blaise, All Movie Guide

Rick Schroder and Brad Pitt are cast as unlikely brothers in Across the Tracks. Schroder is a drug-dealing layabout, while Pitt is a hardworking "model son" (talk about casting against type!) When Schroder begins straigtening himself out by becoming a high school track star, Pitt suffers the pangs of jealousy, retreating into alcohol. Now it is Ricky's turn to reform Brad! This existentialist vampire tale essentially revolves around two characters: The Vampire (Cyril O'Reilly) and his intended victim, a young, brooding and suicidal stripper (Starr Andreeff). Selecting her as his prey primarily because of her desire to die, the morose supernatural predator chooses to spend an entire evening with his equally angst-ridden quarry -- a night in which the two have the opportunity to share their dreams, fears and desires. Good acting and an imaginative premise set this film apart from many low-budget vampire yarns of the period, but the talk-heavy "My Dinner With Dracula" script wears out its welcome after about an hour, and fails to realize the potential for erotic chemistry between the characters. At least, she and the other guests were enjoying the vacation until they were all trapped in the lodge by a sudden blizzard. Among the others are a jealous husband, an outraged wife, a long-suffering agent and an abrasive champion skier. On Wings of Eagles was adapted for television from the best-selling book by Ken Follett. Inspired by fact, the story involves the daring rescue of two American business executives, held captive in Tehran during the US Embassy takeover of 1979. Retired Special Forces colonel Arthur D. "Bull" Simons (Burt Lancaster) agrees to help the executives' employer in a bold effort to rescue the two men right from under the noses of the Ayatollah and the angry mobs surrounding the embassy. Oh, haven't we told you the name of the employer? It was none other than H. Ross Perot, here played by Richard Crenna. This tale of doomed romance set against the backdrop of the Vietnam War was the last in a string of box office disappointments from director Sidney J. Furie before he struck gold again with Iron Eagle (1986). Ken Wahl stars as Dr. Don Jardian, a Navy medical officer assigned to duty in Vietnam. Jardian is no flag-waving patriot, however; the reluctant warrior is just biding his time until he can return stateside and start a lucrative private practice. Then he meets and falls in love with Deborah Solomon (Cheryl Ladd), a devoted nurse who at first keeps the handsome doctor at bay, disgusted by the avariciousness that led him to choose what Deborah considers a noble profession. Eventually, however, Deborah's selflessness inspires Don and their romance blooms despite their bloody surroundings, leading to a dangerous mission that could separate them forever. ~ Karl Williams, All Movie Guide

The real world once more takes a back seat to a caricature of itself as the same Florida high-school teens who grossed profits in Porky's by grossing out, have to band together to stop their Shakespeare festival (!!) from being cancelled, due to a crusading, right-wing reverend's attack on the bard's "lewd" content. The reverend is joined by Miss Balbricker(Nancy Parsons) the girls' gym teacher and also the Ku Klux Klan who object to Romeo being played by an Indian. These unlikely allies come up against the libido-laden teens who strip the Ku Klux Klanners and send them running through town naked. Gillis' refusal to leave the premises may put the kibosh on a long-awaiting special Sunday meal, contributed by a grateful Korean farmer. William Inge's sexual-awakening drama had already been satisfactorily filmed by director Elia Kazan 1961, twenty years before this TV movie made its debut. Melissa Gilbert and Cyrill O'Reilly are not a completely fair trade for the original film's Natalie Wood and Warren Beatty, but the players are game and the results are occasionally worthwhile. The faults lie principally in Inge's dated storyline about a teenaged middle-class "good girl" being seduced by the town's richest boy during the 1920s. The elements of class-consciousness and "retribution for sin" don't play as well in 1981 as they had two decades earlier. Nor does director Richard Sarafian's decision to slavishly follow the Kazan original scene for scene help to make the 1981 version anything of an improvement. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Sort of a triple-threat Bad Seed with a more overtly violent streak, this film tells the tale of trio of cherubic youngsters whose births all coincided with a solar eclipse, which somehow initiated a kind of time-release evil reaction that reaches its climax on the kids' tenth birthday, causing them to transform into miniature homicidal psychopaths. These darling little tykes then proceed to beat dad's brains out with a baseball bat, gun down their teacher, and otherwise beat, stab and strangle anyone who even looks cross-eyed at them. They also seem to be strangely fond of leering at naked teenage girls... or maybe that's just the director's favorite pastime. Produced in 1980, this proto-slasher opus was shelved for six years, then released to video to capitalize on the already-waning trend of Friday the 13th sequels and their hellish offspring. ~ Cavett Binion, All Movie Guide
