Sergio Corbucci crafted one of the most popular and widely imitated of the Italian "spaghetti westerns" of the 1960s with this violent but stylish action saga. A mysterious man named Django (Franco Nero) arrives in a Mexican border town dragging a small coffin behind him. When he attempts to save a woman who is being attacked by a group of bandits, he finds himself in the middle of a conflict between Mexican gangsters and racist Yankee thugs, with the innocent townspeople and a fortune in Mexican gold stuck somewhere in between. Django becomes a force to be reckoned with when it's discovered his coffin actually contains a Gatling gun. Django proved so popular in Europe that over 30 sequels and follow-ups were produced, though Franco Nero would not return to the role until 1987's Django 2: Il Grande Ritorno (the only sequel endorsed by Corbucci), which proved to be the last film in the series. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

A bounty hunter is hired by a wealthy man to rescue his kidnapped daughter. But the bounty hunter likes the prospects of the kidnapper better--the two team up. Ken Wood portrays Italian comic strip wrestler Superargo in this lively sci-fier. The gargantuan grappler is forced into combat with mad scientist Gerard Tichy, who plans to rule the world, or at least Italy. Tichy hopes to go the "Goldfinger" route by crippling the world's economy; his plan involves the manufacture of artificial gold. But with Superargo on the case, Tichy's plans blow up in his face (literally, as it turns out). Nobody is expected to take this imbroglio seriously, so if you go with the flow, you'll have a good time with this Italian live-action cartoon. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
Four writers are to credit for this unsuccessful sword-and-sandal feature starring Richard Harrison. Set in the 1st century A.D., Sparta is under the tyranny of the Roman Empire. With the help of six other gladiators, Spartan Darius (Harrison) is determined to make a small contribution to the welfare of mankind by engaging in hand-to-hand combat with the local brutes. In this epic costumer, a christianized Roman centurion fights back against those who would slaughter his fellow believers. His odyssey begins when Emperor Constantine dies and is replaced by a new Christian-hating Emperor. The centurion takes refuge in a barbarian camp. Later he returns to Rome as a gladiator and wins freedom for the Christians by beating three foes in the arena. Following a devastating earthquake, he is again sent to fight.
