Born in Dallas, TX, in 1992, vocalist-cum-actress Demi Lovato launched her career well before the age of ten, as a participant in various beauty pageants and at assorted casting calls -- guided by her mother, a former Dallas Cowboys cheerleader. She landed her first major on-camera assignment as one of the participants on the famous children's series Barney & Friends, then moved to the hallowed halls of preteen stardom -- The Disney Channel -- as a participant in the "micro-series" sitcom As the Bell Rings, designed to run in between longer programs. Lovato then jump-started her music career as a teen pop vocalist, with extensive cross-country tours and record deals (record executives slated her first album for release in fall 2008), but achieved broadest stardom for her lead role opposite the Jonas Brothers in the Disney Channel telemovie Camp Rock (2008); she played a young aspiring musician who attends a rock & roll-themed summer camp, then gets into hot water for telling a lie about her mother in a misguided attempt to gain popularity. ~ Nathan Southern, All Movie Guide
When a soon-to-be teenage monarch is forced to flee her unstable county during a military takeover, a rural Louisiana teen attempts to help her make the transition to rural American life until order can be restored back home. Rosalinda Marie (Demi Lovato) was about to become queen of Costa Luna when chaos swept through the streets, and an agent from the Princess Protection Program whisked her away to safety. After receiving her new identity at PPP headquarters, "Rosie" learns that she will temporarily be living with the family of the agent who just rescued her. At first, young Carter Mason (Selena Gomez) isn't quite sure what to make of her new houseguest. All Carter knows is that "Rosie" is posing as her cousin from Iowa, and that it's going to take a lot of work to help the princess fit in at her local high school. At first the two girls seem to share little in common except for their age, though when "Rosie" nominates Carter for homecoming queen over the vehement objections of popular girls Chelsea and Brooke, the ice begins to thaw. Realizing that "Rosie" is more than just an air-headed princess from an unknown country, Carter begins brainstorming for a means of helping her new pal regain her throne, no matter what the risk. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

The Jonas Brothers star in this Disney Channel Original Movie about a working class girl determined to refine her musical talent at an acclaimed summer workshop, and the newfound sense of confidence she gains after meeting the singer of a popular musical act. Camp Rock is the place where young musicians go to grow into talented musicians. Mitchie Torres has always dreamt of spending a summer at Camp Rock, but her family can't afford the tuition costs. When Mitchie's mother announces that she got her daughter a discount on tuition by agreeing to work as the camp cook, the young musician is overjoyed at the prospect of actually attending Camp Rock. Though at first intimidated by the more privileged campers, Mitchie soon strikes up a friendship with the decidedly down-to-earth Caitlyn, who dreams of some day becoming a music producer. Later, Mitchie tries to impress popular girls Tess, Peggy, and Ella by claiming that her mother is a powerful executive at Hot Tunes TV, a tall tale that ultimately gets her invited to sing back up for the catty clique. Meanwhile, Connect 3's summer tour has been cancelled, and lead singer Shane Gray seems to have lost his passion for music. His bandmates Jason and Nate think that a stint in Camp Rock would be the perfect thing to help the singer get his ego back in check, and soon after arriving Shane is captivated by Mitchie's voice. Unlike the other campers, Mitchie seems to genuinely appreciate Shane's creativity rather than simply fawning over his stardom, and it before long the pair has become fast friends. But Tess is jealous of Mitchie and Shane's budding friendship, and upon discovering the truth about the humble singer's mother, the scheming mean girl makes it her mission to get ensure that neither Mitchie nor Caitlyn perform at the upcoming Final Jam competition. Later, as Shane, Nate, and Jason take their seats on the judge's panel for the Final Jam, Mitchie attempts to overcome her fear, step into the spotlight, and show everyone her true talent. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

Prior to Split Ends, the popular reality-series format of "job switching" had been utilized for everything from having CEOs trade places with construction workers, to one set of parents switching with another. Inasmuch as this series was produced for cable TV's Style Network, it was only natural that each episode would depict two hairdressers with different specialties and entirely different sets of customers, trading salons for one week. Generally, one of the hairdressers was "trendy" and the other "provincial", though this varied from show to show. The clients and coworkers of the two hairdressers were not warned of the switch ahead of time; in fact, it wasn't until Day Three of the appointed week that the truth dawned on everyone concerned. Days One and Two were devoted to the displaced stylists getting crash courses in their "new" specialties, and getting accustomed to their new surroundings. Needless to say, dozens of hair and cosmetic products were prominently displayed in the course of each episode, in exchange for free advertising.
