Three 12-year-old boys grow up a bit faster than they expected when an adventure takes an unforseen turn in this bittersweet comedy. Joe (Soren Fulton), Tiger (Matthew Borish), and Chris (Sam Semenza) are best friends growing up together in Allentown, PA. The three boys look to one another for support as they struggle with their personal issues -- Joe's big brother is in Europe, Tiger's dad is a cop who has developed a drinking problem, and Chris is a target for bullies since he's overweight. When Joe reads some open mail in his house that leads him to suspect his parents haven't been honest with him about a trip they're planning while he's away at baseball camp, he and his friends hit the road for Philadelphia to find out the truth. While Joe, Tiger, and Chris try at first to make the 60-mile trip on their bikes, the fates have other plans, and they soon turn to hitchhiking. The boys are picked up by a grubby guy named Rascal (Michael Dean), who en route sticks up a convenience store, and the three runaways aren't sure if they're hostages or accomplices as the police begin looking for them and Rascal at the same time. Angel of Death Andrew (John Dye) is unhappy about his latest assignment, which requires him to "collect" young Ben Mason, the last member of a venerable Virginia family, on Ben's wedding day. As his Heavenly predecessor Adam (former series regular Charles Rocket) listens sympathetically, Andrew relates Ben's family history, which is intewoven with an old inn called "Sign of the Dove", once a major link of the Civil War-era Underground Railroad. JAG (Judge Advocate General) is an elite legal branch of military officers trained as lawyers who investigate, prosecute and defend those accused of crimes in the military, including murder, treason and terrorism. Navy Cmdr. Harmon "Harm" Rabb, an ace pilot turned lawyer, and Marine Lt. Col. Sarah "Mac" MacKenzie, a beautiful and strictly by-the-book officer, are colleagues, both with similar high standards, that often find themselves clashing with one another as they take different routes to solve cases. Assisting them with their mission is Navy Lt. Bud Roberts, a lawyer who often surprises his superiors with the breadth of his knowledge, and their boss, the no-nonsense Admiral Chegwidden, a former Navy Seal.

The men of the 15th precinct come to the aid of troublesome cop Szymanski (Christopher Stanley) when his cousin is mixed up in a bar brawl that ends in tragedy. Diane (Kim Delaney) investigates when the wife (Cordelia Richards) of Capt. Bass (Larry Joshua) is the victim of a stabbing. As Bass puts pressure on Fancy (James McDaniel) to track down the perp, Diane learns that the case is not as cut-and-dried as it seem. Leslie Jordan appears as Kyle Whitsett, an innocent man falsely accused of bank robbery who is released from prison thanks to a TV report filed by Murphy (Candice Bergen). Unfortunately, Kyle has been in stir so long that he's not entirely suited for a "civilian" job. Out of sympathy, Miles (Grant Shaud) hires Kyle to be the latest (number eleven, to be exact) of Murphy's secretaries--a job for which he is eminently unsuited, as he proceeds to demonstrate in a hilariously horrendous fashion. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Dyed-in-the-wool activist Murphy Brown (Candice Bergen) is determined to be the first woman to storm the battlements of the Dunfries, the last male-only club left in Washington DC. Not surprisingly, the members resist this onslaught of raw feminism, but Murphy is able to gain entry by digging up a loophole in the club's bylaws (Evidently, any professional person willing to wear a necktie can appear in the reception hall!) All this brouhaha does nothing to assuage the emotional pain suffered by Murphy's coworker Jim (Charles Kimbrough)--who happens to be a Dunfries Club member of long standing. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
This lackluster attempt at blending equal parts action movie and supernatural thriller ends up sacrificing the merits of both genres. The plot finds baby-faced homicide detective Logan (Lou Diamond Phillips) on the trail of "Pentagram Killer" Patrick Channing (Jeff Kober), negligibly assisted by lots of occult mumbo-jumbo espoused by various doomsaying members of the Catholic Church. Channing is eventually captured and executed, but this turns out to be a big mistake: one of the Satanic powers Channing managed to acquire through ritual sacrifice is the power to transfer his soul into other living bodies, allowing him to roam about incognito and continue his killing spree. There is little overt horror on display, as we usually see only the aftermath of Channing's evil deeds; there is scarcely enough mystery to propel the police-procedural elements either. Worse, the producers apparently decided to toss in a romantic subplot involving Phillips and psychic Tracy Griffith to keep things interesting, but fail to sustain credibility even in this department. ~ Cavett Binion, All Movie Guide

After making a mistake on the air, Murphy (Candice Bergen) finds herself being caricatured as "Mouthy Brown" in a comic strip drawn by satirical cartoonist Pat O'Shea (Gregory Proccacino). Unwilling to be thought of as a bad sport, Murphy pretends to find her cartoon counterpart to be hilarious, all the while seething inside. But when O'Shea begins to use his strip to attack the rest of the "FYI" staff, it's time for some retaliatory action. The "comic" motif in this episode is played to the hilt, right down to the utilization of animated thought balloons and "idea" light bulbs.
