Performing an autopsy on a man in his eighties, Quincy determines (Jack Klugman) that the victim was physically abused before his death--possibly by his own son-in-law. Subseqeuntly, another old person shows up with similar symptoms, suggesting to Quincy that there may be a link between the two cases. Ulitmately, the crusading coroner unearths a rather nasty scheme cooked up by a nefarious nephew against a pair of elderly ladies (one of whom is played by 97-year-old Estelle Winwood, who when this episode was filmed had been a stage and screen star for over seventy years). ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

This episode reunites Branded star Chuck Connors with Johnny Crawford, who from 1958 through 1963 had played Connors' son on the popular western series The Rifleman. With all of the menfolk out prospecting for silver, the town of Jefferson City has been left unguarded, save for callow young deputy sheriff Clay Holden (Crawford), a few old people and children, and a one-legged bartender (Richard Arlen). Enter a group of outlaws who kidnap Clay's young wife Karin (Charla Doherty) and order him to stay out of their way while they rob the town's bank. Riding into this tense situation, so-called coward Jason McCord (Connors) must teach young Holden the true meaning--and proper application--of courage under fire. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

During a stopover in a mining camp, a weary Paladin (Richard Boone) allows self-proclaimed mystic Mme. Destin (June Vincent) to read his future with Tarot cards. The cards subsequently reveal that Paladin is slated to meet a sailor--whereupon death will follow!
