The present unfolds along with scenes from the past in this intense psychological drama about Edna (Martha Henry), a woman in the hospital who each day writes down her memories. Edna cannot (or will not) talk to her doctor, and nurses have to take care of her ordinary needs, including making her eat when meals arrive. Edna's stark hospital surroundings give way to the bright colors of her homelife as her memories surface while she writes. She is a devoted housewife, an excellent cook, and in love with her husband. Her husband Harry (Neil Munro) often compliments her on her cooking, fills their conversations with his life at work, and they seem quite normal if perhaps a little boring. But then something happens that will change Edna's attitude toward herself, resulting in a hospital stay, and her stubborn unwillingness to talk. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, All Movie Guide

Way back in 1936, moonshiner Swamp Molly (Neva Patterson) saved the life of Jesse Duke (Denver Pyle). Now, 33 years after the fact, Molly wants the Dukes to repay the favor by helping her make one last, big moonshine run in broad daylight--which of course would mess up the probation of Luke (Tom Wopat) and Bo (John Schneider), something that Boss Hogg (Sorrell Booke) and Sheriff Roscoe (James Best) have been anxiously awaiting for a long, long time! This is the first episode filmed in California, and the first in which Boss and Roscoe are depicted as bumbling buffoons rather than credible "bad guys." ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

It's H.G. Wells (Malcolm McDowell) versus Jack the Ripper (David Warner) in the fanciful Time After Time -- and, per the film's title, the chase extends from the 19th century to the 20th. Wells has built a time machine in his cellar, which the Ripper uses as a means of escape. Both men find themselves in 20th century San Francisco, and, after a period of adjustment, they make themselves at home. The plot takes a dark turn when the Ripper, disappointed that Wells' dreams of a Utopian future have not come to fruition, resumes his murderous activities. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Though it may be impossible to comprehend, Flo (Polly Holliday) finds herself dateless on New Year's Eve. With everyone else out for a good time, lonely Flo is left to handle things at the diner all by herself. Victoria Carroll makes her first appearance as Mel's sometime girlfriend Marie. Appropriately enough, this episode originally aired on December 31, 1978. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
