This children's fantasy is about the "Wombles," borrowed from a British TV series, who are furry creatures (actors in suits), normally invisible to anyone but themselves, and whose mission in life is to clean up after humans -- their first chore was to pick up the forgotten apple core in the Garden of Eden. The British Wombles know something is wrong when humans start to notice them, beginning with little Kim Frogmorton (Bonnie Langford) and then her parents. In a series of vignettes, Wombles alone, or humans alone, or both together handle disconnected misadventures -- such as saving the Womble burrow at Wimbledon, fighting against pollution, and moaning over adult topics like an oil shortage, and a theater shortage, for that matter. A few Wombles are professional beasties (such as Kenny Baker of R2-D2 fame), but for the most part, the scenarios are conventional and range from ordinary to insensitive. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, All Movie Guide

Teaming up with CIA agent Marty Brine (Stuart Damon), the New Avengers foil a huge drug deal engineered by Mandarin crime boss Soo Choy (Terry Wood). In retaliation, Soo Choy lures Steed (Patrick MacNee), Gambit (Gareth Hunt) and Purdey (Joanna Lumley) into his lair, then hunts them down like animals. Just in case anyone has missed this episode's resemblance to Richard Connell's classic short story "The Most Dangerous Game", let it be noted that the villain intends to claim our heroes' heads for his trophy room--and he already has three personalized chopping blocks at the ready. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Season one of The Protectors focuses on the crimefighting team of the same name, dispensing justice throughout the glamour capitals of Europe. American Harry Rule (Robert Vaughn), Briton Contessa di Contini (Nyree Dawn Porter), and Frenchman Paul Buchet (Tony Anholt) work both separately and in concert in this season's batch of 24 episodes. Never sitting still for a second, the Protectors head to Rome in the episode "See No Evil;" to West Germany in "The Quick Brown Fox;" and to London in "With a Little Help From My Friends." There's also a stellar guest-cast roster during season one, including Doctor Who's Patrick Troughton in "Brother Hood," Batman's Michael Gough in "One and One Makes One," and Sherlock Holmes' Jeremy Brett in the aforementioned visit to London. Finally, Ed Bishop, star of another Gerry Anderson production, UFO, shows up in "The First Circle." ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

In this 1967 drama, resourceful British agent Bulldog Drummond, who appeared onscreen in a series of spy stories between 1929 and 1951, returned to duty in the wake of James Bond. Here, Drummond (Richard Johnson) is on the trail of Carl Petersen (Nigel Green), a corrupt industrialist who has a bad habit of stealing the ideas of others and then killing them so he can reap their profits. The nefarious Petersen has a team of female assistants willing to kill on command, led by Irma (Elke Sommer) and Penelope (Sylva Koscina). One more Bulldog Drummond vehicle, Some Girls Do, followed in 1969 before the series was retired again. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide
