Mounted to commemorate maestro Gustavo Dudamel's second season as Music Director of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, this October 7, 2010 music event took place at Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, California. It finds Dudamel teaming up with his longtime friend, bel canto tenor Juan Diego Flórez, for a selection of classical and pop pieces by Gioachino Rossini, Giuseppe Verdi, Chabuca Granda, José Pablo Moncayo, Agustín Lara, María Grever, Pedro Elías Gutiérrez, Gaetano Donizetti and Arturo Márquez. Gioachino Rossini adapted his 1817 opera La Cenerentola from the classic fairy tale Cinderella, but famously insisted on removing all supernatural elements from the narrative; the resultant work arguably attained as much popularity as anything else he had done. That opera comes to life in this 2008 stage production by the Gran Teatre del Liceu; it stars American performer Joyce di Donato in the title role (a character also known as Angelina); Juan Diego Flórez as Don Ramiro and David Menéndez as Dandini.
