A man who is trying to escape his past as a criminal must decide who he can trust in this gritty independent drama from Australia. It's the day after Christmas, and Chris (Richard Green) is an ex-convict who is waiting out the last part of his jail sentence under house arrest at the suburban home he shares with his teenage daughter Brooke (Misty Sparrow). While Chris wants to turn his back on his life of crime, his old friend Owen (Stuart Clark) isn't as determined, and tries to persuade Chris to let him stash drugs at his place. As Chris struggles to convince Owen this is a bad idea, Chris finds he has guests -- his former wife Donna (Tammy Anderson) has stopped by with her new boyfriend in tow, Dave (Syd Brisbane). After the four chat for a while, Owen takes Chris into the other room and tells him he's met Dave before -- they were both in jail, where Dave was doing time for child molestation. While Owen is an old friend, Chris isn't certain how far his word can be trusted; at the same time, shouldn't Donna know if there's reason to doubt Dave's character and good intentions? Shot in a series of long, uninterrupted takes, Boxing Day was directed by Kriv Stenders and written by Stenders and Richard Green, who also plays Chris. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide
A filmmaker with a vision finds that vision delayed due to tumultuous changes in his life in this independently produced feature. 7 Year Zigzag is the autobiographical tale of lead Richard Green, who narrates -- in rhyme -- his efforts to get a swing-disco musical made in the late '70s, only to see it ripped off by the 1980 debacle Xanadu. Discouraged but not defeated, he takes gigs as a musician in London and as a corporate drone to see his dream through. 7 Year Zigzag contains no spoken dialogue other than Green's musical voice-overs. ~ Michael Hastings, All Movie Guide

He was one of the most unique yet curiously unknown actors ever to grace the screen, and now fans of longtime David Lynch cohort Jack Nance can finally hear the story of this remarkable actor straight from the mouths of those who knew him best in this unique and absorbing documentary. From his unforgettable performance in Eraserhead to his mysterious death, Nance was a true original. Now thanks to filmmaker Chris Leavens, fans can join frequent collaborators Lynch, Dennis Hopper, Catherine Coulson, and many others as they pay tribute to the man who truly lived and worked on his own terms. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide
In 1989, Reed Paget was a 23-year-old photographer and aspiring documentarian who wanted to record the seven wonders of the world on film. He decided to start in China, where he got a job teaching English, just in time to witness the student uprisings that led to the massacre in Tiananmen Square. Paget was able to sneak his film (and himself) out of the country, and next visited Vietnam and Cambodia, hoping to photograph Angor Wat. As one might expect, Paget and his traveling companion were both arrested, but upon his release, Paget discovered he'd developed a taste for danger. He spent much of the next few years scrambling to the world's trouble spots and throwing himself into the face of war or civil disturbance in Nicaragua, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Panama, South Africa, Germany, Moscow, Cairo, and Israel, which was as close to the Gulf War as he was able to get before missiles began to fall. American Passport features Paget's footage from his many travels, as well as interviews with friends and family and his narration, which reflects his leftist political views on international politics. American Passport (which has also been advertised under the alternate spelling Amerikan Passport) was named Best Documentary at the 1999 Slamdance Film Festival. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide
With genuine laughter and sympathy for those on all sides this entertaining comedy takes a sharp satirical poke at modern society in post-apartheid South Africa by telling the story of an idealistic young African-American couple from LA who come to make a better life in Johannesburg following the election of Nelson Mandela. Curtis, the husband, is a native of Soweto, a nearby shanty town, and dreams of beautifying his former home by planting many trees. Pragmatic wife Cora has difficulty reconciling herself to the primitive conditions of shanty town life. Both are lost in their idealized visions of what Mandela-controlled South Africa will be like. Unfortunately, their illusions are immediately shattered soon after stepping of the plain and meeting Curtis' street-savvy nephew Looksmart when black gangsters show up and steal everything they have. Meanwhile, in a different plotline, Adrian, a white student agonizes over the ways in which he will inform his conservative parents that he is engaged to Thandeka, a black woman. ~ Sandra Brennan, All Movie Guide
Corbin Bernsen and Malcolm McDowell star in an enchanting tale of fairies and giants that the whole family will enjoy. Now grandmother is gone, and the siblings are surprised to discover that they have inherited a decrepit gold mine and a family home they never even knew existed. Upon discovering that grandmother's far fetched stories have a bizarre basis in reality and that by freeing the fairies from the mine they will discover a cure for their terminally ill father (Bernsen), Kyle and Evie race against time to free the trapped fairies and save their father's life. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide
