A doctor who lost his son in a tragic accident gets a second shot at healing his fractured family by adopting a little boy with leukemia in this inspirational drama starring Lee Majors and Mel Fair. Ever since Dr. Drew Carter (Fair)'s son was killed in a devastating auto crash, his family has been slowly drifting apart. His wife Julia (Musetta Vander), who was driving at the time, has never been able to forgive herself, and their daughter Kayla (Aubyn Cole) has become emotionally withdrawn. But just when it begins to look like all hope for a happy future is lost, Dr. Carter receives a telephone call from Dr. Miller (Majors), who convinces him to become a foster parent to Johnny (Jerry Phillips), a young boy who suffers from leukemia, and who lost his mother in a drunk driving accident. Though at first Julia is enraged that her husband would agree to bring a dying child into their lives, Johnny's unbreakable spirit and unwavering faith teaches that family that with God's love, we have the power to overcome any challenge that life throws our way. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

A man is sent into the future to see the possible results of his actions in this mixture of sci-fi adventure and Christian drama. In 1890, Russell Carlisle (D. David Morin) is a philosopher and college professor who has completed a manuscript he calls "The Changing Times." The university where Carlisle teaches is considering publishing his latest work, but a committee of ranking professors under the leadership of the school's Dean (Hal Linden) must first vote unanimously to approve the material. One of Carlisle's colleagues, Norris Anderson (Gavin MacLeod), strongly objects to the paper on the grounds that Carlisle contends morality can be taught apart from Christianity -- a view that Anderson, a devout Christian, cannot abide. Carlisle becomes increasingly frustrated with Anderson's objections, but after the meeting, Anderson shows Carlisle something remarkable -- a working time machine he has built in his home. Using this innovation, Anderson sends Carlisle to a typical American city in the year 2001, in order to show the impact his ideas could have as he witnesses a society in which morality and Christianity are considered separate entities. As he tries to make his way through modern-day America, Carlisle becomes friendly with Eddie (Paul Rodriguez), a well-meaning regular guy, and Michelle (Jennifer O'Neill), a beautiful woman with a mind of her own. Time Changer is the first feature film from writer and director Rich Christiano, who has been making short films for the Christian marketplace since 1991. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

Awakening from a coma after five years, Steve Bell (played by future West Wing regular Bradley Whitford) finds that his life is in a shambles. Most devastating is the discovery that Steve's wife Bonnie (Malcolm in the Middle's Jane Kaczmarek) has fallen in love with his business partner Matthew (D. David Morin), and has divorced Steve on the assumption that he would never recover. Inasmuch as it was Monica (Roma Downey) who'd saved Steve's life during the accident which rendered him comatose, it is Monica who feels totally responsible for the whole sorry mess--and in the end, it is up to Special Agent Angel Al (Brenda Vaccaro) to straighten things out. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

Stephen Frears' Hero is a contemporary re-working of a Frank Capra-styled fable about a two-bit criminal named Bernie (Dustin Hoffman) who saves several passengers from a plane crash and leaves the scene without being identified, leaving only a lost shoe for identification. One of the passengers happens to be news-reporter Gale (Geena Davis) who is intent on finding her savior, and offers a million dollars to the "hero" of the crashed flight. Bernie has since given his remaining shoe to a homeless man named John (Andy Garcia) who decides to cash in on the offer. A handsome, charming man, John wins the hearts of the entire city. Soon, Bernie realizes that he's been cheated out of a million dollars, and he begins an effort to get his proper recognition--and his money. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, Rovi

Bette Midler stars as a Martha Raye-type entertainer during the World War II era in this big-budget nostalgia piece. Midler plays big-band singer Dixie Leonard, who is chosen to perform at an overseas USO Christmas show by her uncle Art Silver (George Segal), a comedy writer for famed comedian Eddie Sparks (James Caan). Dixie is shuttled to London, where she is thrown on-stage with Eddie, who takes an immediate dislike to her. But her performance is a sensation, and the audience can't stop howling at Dixie's smart one-liner comebacks to Eddie. Dixie is catapulted to stardom, and the repartee between Eddie and Dixie becomes the stuff of legend. The two spar together through World War II, the McCarthy era, and Vietnam. But Dixie stops speaking to Eddie when he fires a writer for being a communist sympathizer and, later, she doesn't speak to him again after he arranges for a reunion between her and her son on the battlefields of Vietnam. Finally, Dixie, now an old woman, is cajoled to appear on a television awards show to reunite with a now decrepit Eddie, age 91. ~ Paul Brenner, Rovi

To Heal a Nation is the true story of Jan Scruggs (Eric Roberts), a decorated veteran of the Vietnam War. In 1979, Scruggs, employed by the US Department of Labor, becomes obsessed with the dream of erecting a monument to those who died in Vietnam. In pursuit of this dream, Scruggs and his fellow fundraisers run up against bureaucratic indifference and public hostility-not to mention the reservations of certain veterans who disapprove of the monument's "radical" design. On November 13, 1982, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial is erected in Washington DC-an intensely emotional moment, vividly recreated by combining dramatizations with actual news footage. Originally presented as GE Theater TV production, To Heal a Nation debuted May 29, 1988. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
