Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zooey Deschanel star in director Marc Webb's wry, nonlinear romantic comedy about a man who falls head over heels for a woman who doesn't believe in love. Mark (Gordon-Levitt) is an aspiring architect who currently earns his living as a greeting card writer. Upon encountering his boss' beautiful new secretary, Summer (Deschanel), Mark discovers that the pair have plenty in common despite the fact that she's seemingly out of his league; for starters, they both love the Smiths, and they're both fans of surrealist artist Magritte. Before long Mark is smitten. All he can think about is Summer. Mark believes deeply in the concept of soul mates, and he's finally found his. Unfortunately for Mark, Summer sees true love as the stuff of fairy tales, and isn't looking for romance. This collegiate farce directed by Theo Avgerinos had its world premiere at the 2006 Tribeca Film Festival. After a party thrown by his roommate, Coleman (John Hensley), violates their dorm-room probation, college freshman (at a thinly veiled New York University) Darren (Lou Taylor Pucci) loses his scholarship money and scrambles to raise the funds by selling 50 ecstasy pills given to him as an apology by Coleman over the course of a hectic day. While loading the pills off on fellow college students, friends, family, and Coleman's customers -- including a dominatrix named Petunia (Monica Keena) and an insanely off-kilter stock trader (Eddie Kaye Thomas) -- Darren must also finish a paper on Dante's Inferno, deal with his parents (Jane Lynch and John Kapelos) in New Jersey, who think he's gay, elude the mysterious Soul Man (Ron Yuan), and try to convince his crush, Grace (Kristen Bell), that he's not a sleazy drug dealer. A successful and single thirty-something named Bella Bloom embarks on a tireless quest to track down her soul mate after a bachelorette-party psychic informs her that she has already met "the one," despite failing to realize it during their initial encounter. According to the psychic at her sister Daphne's bachleorette bash, Bella has already met her future husband. But all hope isn't lost, because she still has a whole year to track him down. Should she fail to find him in one year's time, however, Bella is doomed to spend the rest of her life alone. Thankfully has a supportive army of friends to assist her in the search; friends like Augie, an endearing pal who has always been there to listen to Bella's tales of romantic woe. Bella's childhood friend Vivian is game for the hunt as well, as is her wry and perpetually unemployed pal Cyrus. Though Bella is reluctant to buy into the psychic's theory at first, she soon witnesses an event that convinces her without question that she needs to start searching fast.
