According to the Lifetime channel publicity, the made for cable Miracle Run was "inspired by the true story of the winner in all of us." The life of single mother Corinne Morgan (Mary-Louise Parker) is forever changed when she learns that both of her twin sons are autistic. The medical experts advice Corinne either to have the boys institutionalized or farm them out for adoption: The educational establishment writes off both kids as "unteachable" virtually before they ever set foot in a school. But Corinne is determined to the point of bullying that the twins will have as a normal a life as possible--and with the help of sympathetic handyman Douglas Thomas (Aidan Quinn), her hopes are fulfilled beyond her wildest dreams. Despite its optimistic outlook, the film stresses the fact that the lives of young Steven and Phillip Morgan will forever remain a steep and often treacherous uphill climb. Clint Eastwood's adaptation of the non-fiction book Flags of Our Fathers concerns the lives of the men in the famous picture of soldiers raising the American flag over Iwo Jima during that historic WWII battle. Battle scenes are intercut with footage of three of the soldiers - played by Ryan Phillipe, Jesse Bradford, and Adam Beach -- who survived the battle going on a goodwill tour of the United States in order to sell war bonds. Many evening they are forced to reenact their famous pose, something each of them finds more and more difficult to do as they suffer from survivor's guilt. Eastwood frames the story by having one of the men's grown son (Tom McCarthy) interview his father's old comrades in order to find out more about what happened to his father. Eastwood followed this film with Letters from Iwo Jima, a second film about the battle of Iwo Jima, but told from the Japanese perspective. Originally intended for theatrical release, The Angel Doll is an adaptation of Jerry Bledsoe's bestselling novel of the same name. Set in the South of the '50s, the story focuses on "Whitey" Black (Cody Newton), a kid from the wrong side of the tracks who befriends middle-class youngster Jerry Barlow (Michael Welch) while the two share a paper route. Jerry learns that Whitey wants to purchase a "very special" doll as a Christmas present for his terminally ill sister. Not only does Whitey meet with opposition from the locals because his sister has polio and is thus regarded as "contagious," but the doll he wants is nowhere to be found in his hometown. Thus it is that Whitey and Jerry embark upon a lengthy, adventure-laden journey in search of the elusive doll, meeting people of all sorts (and all temperaments) along the way. Keith Carradine is top-billed as the adult Jerry Barlow, while Diana Scarwid is given the extremely difficult (and highly contrary) role of Whitey's drink-sodden mother.
