Canadian documentary filmmaker Bonnie S. Klein (Speaking Our Piece) takes an uncompromising look at the adult film industry in Not a Love Story. Like prostitution, the participation in the making of hard-core pornographic films is considered a victimless crime. Klein argues that this is not the case, and to prove her thesis she offers case studies of unfortunate young women whose lives were ruined by working in X-rated films. Among many other pitfalls, the dangers of contacting communicable diseases is discussed herein; ironically, the AIDS epidemic was still a few years in the future. Amplifying Klein's argument are such renowned feminists as Kate Millett and Robyn Morgan. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Since she was a child, Natalie Miller (Patty Duke) has always thought she was an ugly ducking. When a boy called her "clown face", the six-year-old knocked out his front teeth with a shovel. Despite her mother's encouragement that she will grow up to be pretty, Natalie has never believed it will happen. When her parents bribe a young medical student to date her, Natalie discovers the ruse and moves out of her parent's house. She rents a Greenwich Village apartment from an eccentric landlady (Elsa Lanchester) and gets a job at the Topless Bottom Club. She rides a motorcycle to work, decorates her loft with a moose head, and rides up and down a dumbwaiter to get to her apartment. There Natalie meets David (James Farentino) an artist, and the two have a love affair before she discovers he is married. She considers returning home after finding him in bed with his wife. Al Pacino makes his first screen appearance in a minor role in this engaging drama. ~ Dan Pavlides, All Movie Guide

The life and times of a modern miracle worker, Mother Frances Cabrini, are chronicled in this biography that features real film clips of the woman as the Pope canonizes her in Rome. Some of her best miracles are re-created. The film also chronicles her love of the church and her sustaining sense of humor. Among the miracles are a scene where she brings someone back from the dead, and gives a mute singer her voice. ~ Sandra Brennan, All Movie Guide
