Many actors know from childhood that acting is the only job they'll ever want, but Jeffrey Dean Morgan is a rare exception. He pursued basketball in high school with tremendous success, until a knee injury ended his sports career, and he then trained and worked as a graphic artist for some time. Eventually, however, his interest in acting became overpowering, and Morgan moved to Los Angeles to pursue acting as a career, rather than just an interest. He found steady work appearing on shows like ER and Angel, eventually scoring a huge break in 2005 when he was cast in recurring roles on three different series: Grey's Anatomy, Weeds, and Supernatural. The shows put him on the map, especially Grey's Anatomy, and oddly enough, his characters died on all three shows. Morgan's career was still alive and kicking, however, and he was soon appearing in the comedy Kabluey opposite Christine Taylor and The Accidental Husband with Uma Thurman and Colin Firth. ~ Cammila Albertson, All Movie Guide

Lourdes Benedicto makes her first series appearance as new pediatrics intern Rena Trujillo. The episode's pre-eminent crisis occurs at the site of a commuter-train accident, where Carter (Noah Wyle) and Kovac (Goran Visnjic) are forced to extreme measures to save the life of trapped firefighter Larkin (Jeffrey Dean Morgan). The doctors also try to rescue a woman (Stacy Haiduk) who, though impaled by a shard of medal, is more concerned about the health of her son. Likewise at the scene of the accident, Corday (Alex Kingston) begins to go into contractions; and even psychiatrist Legaspi (Elizabeth Mitchell) makes an appearance when the person who caused the crash is located. Finally, an ongoing story arc is wrapped up as the dying Bishop Stewart (John Cromwell) tries to assuage Kovac's (Goran Visnjic) guilt over "deserting" his family during the Balkan wars. Long averse to turning Angel Investigations into a purely for-profit venture, new dad Angel (David Boreanaz) suddenly becomes money-conscious when it comes to the welfare of his son. He advertises online, and the crew find themselves spread rather thin by the flood of new business. Angel gets conned by a businessman who turns out not to be who he claimed. Wesley (Alexis Denisof) and Gunn (J. August Richards) try to save a woman from her now-undead stalker ex-boyfriend, but lady and zombie ultimately decide to overcome their differences. Fred (Amy Acker) and The Host (Andy Hallett) take a 50,000-dollar gig helping some demons solve a complex puzzle, but Cordelia (Charisma Carpenter) learns in a vision that the demons actually want to harvest Fred's head and use it to revive their ailing leader. Angel, Wes, and Gunn save the day, and the gang decide to pocket the 50 grand for their troubles. A road trip rolls through a small town where the line between the dead and the living has become a bit problematic in this horror parody. A handful of twentysomethings are driving to Galveston, TX, in an RV to attend the wedding of a close friend. After a long day on the road, the travelers find themselves in a tiny town called Lovelock, where the only available accommodations are at a bed and breakfast run by the eccentric Mr. Wise (David Carradine). One of the kids, Johnny (Oz Perkins), notices that Mr. Wise is carefully looking after a small box; curious about its contents, Johnny opens it, only to unleash a torrent of evil spirits who turn the local rednecks into bloodthirsty creatures hovering somewhere between life and death. Season Three of Monk begins as a clue to the identity of his wife's murderer brings obsessive-compulsive detective Adrian Monk (Tony Shalhoub) to New York City, along with his nurse-assistant Sharona (Bitty Schram) and his former SFPD colleagues Capt. Stottlemeyer (Ted Levine) and Lt. Disher (Jason Gray-Stanford). Almost immediately upon arrival, Monk witnesses the killing of the Latvian Ambassador. NYPD Captain Cage (Mykelti Williamson) thinks that the motive was political, but Monk suspects otherwise. Andy (Justin Kirk), due to a court order, is attending Marijuana Anonymous when he meets the lovely Sharon (Brooke Langton). He makes up some shameless lie about being abused as a child in order to convince her to become his sponsor. Doug (Kevin Nealon) and Dean (Andy Milder) help the sexually frustrated Nancy (Mary-Louise Parker) set up the bakery she'll use as a front for her pot dealing, and Conrad (Romany Malco) shows up to tell her how she should store her drugs. Celia (Elizabeth Perkins) stops by while Conrad is in the store, and invites him out dancing. "I have cancer and jungle fever," she tells Nancy, "and tonight one of them is going to get cured." While Nancy is out clubbing, interesting things are going on at home. Silas (Hunter Parrish) makes up with Megan (Shoshannah Stern), and Lupita (Renee Victor) hears from a friend that her employer is a drug dealer. She goes on a room-to-room search of the house, looking for Nancy's stash. A car wreck causes the lives of 15 strangers to unexpectedly collide in this independent comedy drama. It's Father's Day, and Ted (William Forsythe) is out on the road with his 19-year-old son Josh (Dan Byrd). When Josh slams on the brakes to avoid hitting a dog along a two-lane highway in the country, his car is rear-ended by Lorraine (Marianne Jean-Baptiste), a cellist en route to a gig. Josh's car hits a telephone pole which soon blocks the road, and a traffic jam results. Among the folks waiting for the road to clear are Lilac (Gina Torres) and her lesbian girlfriend Rose (Mariah O'Brien), who is about to have a baby and needs medical help. Jerry (David DeLuise) and Curt (Christopher Amitrano) are a pair of half-bright rednecks who have stolen an ATM machine and are trying to figure out how to liberate the cash from it when they're enlisted to help Rose have her child. Divorcé Dale (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) is spending the day with his kids Robert (Skyler Gisondo) and Brianna (Marissa Blanchard), but he isn't sure how to break the news he'll soon be moving away and won't see them very often. Gary (Jonathan Silverman) and Judy (Julie Claire) are a bickering yuppie couple at odds over the fact they haven't been able to have a baby. Amy (Amanda Detmer) is on her way to her wedding, and her friends Stephanie (Amanda Foreman) and Jen (Elizabeth Bogush) are there to lend support, but Amy is having second thoughts and Stephanie knows something that would have a very serious effect on the nuptials. Outside Isabelle's (Allie Grant) dance class, the gossip about Dean's (Andy Milder) affair with the local tennis pro, Helen Kim (Michelle Krusiec of Saving Face), are reaching fever pitch, and Nancy (Mary-Louise Parker) also overhears Celia (Elizabeth Perkins) telling Isabelle that Quinn has been sent off to boarding school in Mexico. A bounced check sends a distraught Nancy on a visit to Doug (Kevin Nealon), who suggests that Nancy needs a front business in order to maintain a checking account without leaving a paper trail. Nancy's money woes are creating problems at home and at work. The phone's been turned off, and Nancy gets an amused reaction when she asks Heylia (Tonye Patano) about her "credit policy." Nancy has buyers lined up, but doesn't have the cash for the weed, so she has to leave the family car as collateral, and drives off in Conrad's (Romany Malco) beloved "hooptie." Meanwhile, Celia has gone on the offensive in her house, shaving Dean's head while he sleeps. "Did your hair go to boarding school in Mexico, too?" a bemused Isabelle asks her father over breakfast the next morning. Confronted by Silas (Hunter Parrish) about Quinn's sudden disappearance, Celia points out that Quinn had a day and a half to "put her affairs in order," and didn't bother to call Silas, so it hits home when she calls Silas "a fun and sweaty diversion" for her daughter. Later on, Celia visits the tennis club, and goes for a drink and a not-so-friendly chat with Helen Kim. Having proven that it could stand on its own two feet without Desperate Housewives as its lead-in, Grey's Anatomy remained in its new Thursday-night slot as the seriocomic medical series entered its third season. In addition to established stars Ellen Pompeo (intern Meredith Grey) Patrick Dempsey (Dr. Derek Shepherd), Katherine Heigl (intern "Izzie" Stevens), Isaiah Washington (Dr. Preston Burke) et. al.. former recurring players Eric Dane (as plastic surgeon Mark Sloan) and Sara Ramirez (Dr. Callie Torres) have now been promoted to "regular" status. The season begins as the Seattle Grace Hospital medical team's favorite bartender Joe (Steven W. Bailey) provides those who came in late with a quick run-down of the events of the previous two seasons. Meredith is now torn between two lovers, Derek Shepherd and Dr. Finn Dandridge (Chris O'Donnell). The prickly relationship between Derek and his estranged-wife Dr. Addison Montgomery (Kate Walsh) is made even more so by the reappearance of their daughter. Intern Cristina Yang (Sandra Oh) has decided to remain with her current amour, Preston Burke. And after seriously considering giving up the medical profession after the death of her beloved heart patient Denny, Izzie changes her mind when the Denny Duquette Memorial Clinic is established. The first of the season's two most crucial story developments occurs when Chief of Surgery Richard Weber (James Pickens) announces his impending retirement, sparking a tense competition amongst Derek, Burke, Addison and Mark to take Weber's place. The apparent dark horse in this competition is Dr. Colin Marlow (Roger Rees), though Marlow makes his mark on the proceedings by coming between Cristina and Burke. Another major plot deveopment involves a disastrous collision between a cargo ship and a ferryboat, which threatens to claim the life of protagonist Meredith Grey (it also provides Izzie's former beau Dr. Alex Karev (Justin Chambers) the opportunity to become overly involved with an unidentified accident victim, played by Elizabeth Reaser). At season's end, Dr. Weber's successor is announced, Cristina and Burke are about to be wed, Callie demands that her husband George O'Malley (Sara Ramirez) make a commitment, and the interns sweat out the results of their first-year medical exams. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Knight) acts quickly; Derek races against time to safe the life of gunshot victim Burke; and Webber (James Pickens Jr.) tries to make a dying girl's dream come true--a particularly poignant moment, in that the girl is his own niece. And on the romantic scene, Callie (Sara Ramirez) demands to know how George really feels about her, while Derek and Addison (Kate Walsh) reach yet another crossroads. But all these intrigues take second place to a horrible automobile accident caused by an intern (John Cho) suffering from short-term memory loss. The arrival of Mark Sloan serves only to remind Derek (Patrick Dempsey) of why he broke up with Addison.
