Demetri Martin Movies
Though perhaps best known for his "Trendspotting" segments on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, Demetri Martin was quite successful in comedy circles for several years prior to his contributions as TDS's "youth correspondent." In 2003, Martin appeared on Comedy Central's standup comedy special Premium Blend, and went on to write for Late Night With Conan O'Brien in the show's Emmy-winning 2003-2004 season. In a somewhat ironic career move, Martin signed a deal with Microsoft to write ads for Windows Vista (fellow Daily Show contributor John Hodgman appears regularly in Apple commercials). In 2007, Martin starred in Demetri Martin. Person., another Comedy Central showcase. The comedian also stars in the television series Important Things With Demetri Martin, put out by none other than Jon Stewart's Busboy Productions. A floundering MIT graduate sends out the '80s with a bang after being invited to an end-of-summer bash by his former high school crush in this nostalgia-flavored comedy starring Topher Grace, Anna Faris, and Dan Fogler. Matt Franklin (Grace) has just graduated from MIT, but he's content to spend his days stacking the shelves of his local Suncoast Video instead of going to work for a Fortune 500 company. Meanwhile, his sarcastic twin sister, Wendy (Faris), knows he can do better, and his best friend, Barry (Fogler), has a wild streak the size of the Mississippi River. When Tori Frederking (Teresa Palmer) happens into the video store one day and strikes up a conversation with Matt, he compulsively lies about having a job at Goldman Sachs. Incredibly, Matt and Tori hit it off, and she invites him to join her for a massive summer blowout. The opportunity of a lifetime finally within reach, Matt arrives at the party in style, intent on sweeping Tori off her feet. Real-life sweethearts Michael Cera and Charlyne Yi star in a fictionalized version of their romance in this indie semi-documentary comedy, written by Yi. Playing themselves, Yi and Cera embark on a scripted version of their own story. In the movie, Yi has agreed to be the subject of a documentary about her quest to discover if love really exists, since she's never experienced it. As part of her participation in the project, she has a film crew follow her around throughout every new development in her love life -- which gets complicated when she starts dating fellow comedian Cera. This portion of the film is all narrative, and was written into the script, but also as part of the documentary, Yi travels the country interviewing various people about their opinions and experiences with love, and these portions of the film are real -- the interviewees are not actors. Melding truth and fantasy, Paper Heart uses equal parts comedy and realism to resolve the ultimate question of whether love is fact or fiction. ~ Cammila Collar, Rovi

Academy Award-winning director Ang Lee tells the story of the Greenwich Village interior designer who inadvertently helped to spark a cultural revolution by offering the organizers of the Woodstock Music and Arts Festival boarding at his family's Catskills motel.
