Mikey Day Movies
A veteran of Los Angeles' famed Groundlings comedy troupe, comedic performer and writer Mikey Day did the majority of his early work on cable television. Among other accomplishments, he authored blackouts for -- and performed on -- Damon Wayans' short-lived Showtime sketch comedy series The Underground, guest starred on Reno 911!, and appeared as himself in the reality program Faking the Video. In 2007, Day landed a role opposite Katt Williams, Jeremy Piven, and Snoop Dogg in the direct-to-video urban comedy Katt Williams: American Hustle -- The Movie. ~ Nathan Southern, All Movie Guide

Comedian Damon Wayans was so determined to get his "no holds barred" sketch-comedy series The Underground on the air that he financed the pilot episode with $600,000 of his own money. Declaring that he'd felt hampered by censorship strictures imposed upon by his earlier Fox series In Living Color, Wayans promised that his new show would break completely free from the shackles of the over-the-air network "standard practices." Opening each episode with the disclaimer "WARNING: Seriously Funny Shit", the star offered wildly scattershot spoofs of other TV series ("Iraq's Funniest Home Videos") and various forms of popular culture ("The Real Vagina Monologues"), as well as pointed barbs at the urban-culture crowd who'd embraced his own work (one recurring character was "Hypocrip", a foul-mouthed rap artist who lived in the suburbs). The talented stock company--many of whom doubled as staff writers-- included Wayans' own son Damon Wayans Jr., standup comedienne/talk show emcee Gabrielle Dennis, and MAD TV alumnus Aries Spiers, while Wayans' brother Dwayne Wayans suppled the original music. Chappelle's Show writer/producer/director Neal Brennan makes his feature directorial debut with this retro-minded comedy purported to have been produced in the 1980s but never released until 2006. As the Gunderson family sets out on a cross-country road trip to their new home, boyishly handsome Charlie (Mikey Day), blossoming dancer Lori (Dominique Swain), and highly intelligent Max (Trevor Heins) all have their own ideas of what life will be like in their new town. When Charlie is singled out as the least popular senior on the very first day of school, kindly outcast Billie (Nicki Clyne) amiably agrees to show him the ropes and provide him with an illuminating crash course in the clique system. Meanwhile, Lori is shocked to discover that dancing has been banned in her new town and the only place to cut loose is at the clandestine dance sessions held in the garage of current janitor and former dance instructor Gabriel (Chris Kattan). Immediately forbidden from attending the highly secretive shindigs, Lori stealthily sneaks out to be with the kindly Gabriel as her feelings for the dance instructor grow and the pair set into motion a clever plan to usher in a new era of dancing around town. When Charlie vows to win the heart of popular girl Kimberly (Brittany Daniel) by competing against her athletic boyfriend, Kipp (Joey Kern), in the upcoming school decathlon, lovelorn Billie quietly pines for the clueless newcomer from afar as he begins a rigorous training regiment with Japanese gardener Yamagashi (James Hong).
