Adapted from the French comic book Panic in London, director Pierre-Francois Martin-Laval's sophomore feature tells the tale of a forgotten isle inhabited by five people who live like they're in medieval times while awaiting the arrival of their new king. Tourist train driver Guillaume (Martin-Laval) and his tuba-playing wife, Magali (Florence Foresti), are deeply in love. They lead a blissful life in the suburbs, and they've just discovered they're about to start a family when the father Guillaume never knew contacts the couple with a shocking announcement: by virtue of an accord reaching back to the Middle Ages, Guillaume is the heir to a kingdom located just off the coasts of France and England. But while the elated couple at first imagine themselves living in an island castle and presiding over a paradise filled with faithful subjects, the reality of the situation isn't quite so romantic. Battered by North winds, the island is little more than a glorified rock. To make matters worse, the current residents are five eccentrics who seem to have forgotten what century they live in. Now, while Magali gets wrapped up in the prospect of becoming a genuine queen and Guillaume celebrates his status as a crowned head, their new servants scramble to cover up the truth about the island until their new ruler can no longer renounce his throne. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

Fate brings together two people with seemingly nothing in common in this French romantic comedy. Helene (Carole Bouquet) is a single mother living in an upscale apartment complex in Paris with her teenage son Jeremy (Jean Senejoux). Helene is a successful author and a bit of a control freak who lives a carefully ordered existence. However, the same can't be said for her new next-door neighbor Valentin (Marc Lavoine), an aging slacker has lost both his job and his flat and will be spending the next few months in his uncle's spare home in Paris. Helene is more than a little appalled with Valentin and his lack of ambition and fashion sense, but her cat keeps finding its way into his apartment, and they can't seem to avoid one another. Valentin also strikes up a friendship with Jeremy, who offers the sort of male role model that's been missing in his life. Despite her initial annoyance with Valentin, Helene begins to warm to her new neighbor, but can love stand a chance with this mismatched pair? ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

Two thick-headed pals stumble through a town where nearly everyone is as dumb as they are in this manic comedy from Belgium. Jean-Claude (Jean-Luc Couchard) is a loud-mouthed, know-it-all and full time boor who is best friends with Stef (Dominique Pinon), a self-styled lady killer who would do better with the fair sex if he could work up the ambition to wake up in the morning. Stef has decided that despite his lofty ambitions, he may need some help in finding the woman of his dreams, and embracing loyalty rather than logic he turns to Jean-Claude for advice. As Jean-Claude explains his deeply flawed techniques for impressing women, he and Stef cross the paths of a handful of local eccentrics, including perpetual mugging victim Greg (Jeremie Renier), misguided school teacher Nadine (Marion Cotillard), sex crazed Natacha (Melanie Laurent), short-tempered cop Laurence (Florence Foresti), wealthy spoiled brat Fabianne (Marie Kremer), and abattoir enthusiast Claudy (Francois Damiens). ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide
