Teri Garr guest stars as patient Celinda Randlett, who claims to possess the incredible power of seeing "inside" people. In other developments, everyone in the ER finds out that Carol (Julianna Margulies) is pregnant with twins; Weaver (Laura Innes) brings in an abandoned child; Benton (Eriq La Salle) gets more bad news; a teenager (Corey Parker Robinson) whom Carter (Noah Wyle) previously mentored returns as a patient; and Lucy (Kellie Martin) is becoming more and more dependent upon Ritalin. After 18 years of psychotherapy, Frank (Joe Regalbuto) is thrown for a loss when his analyst Dr. Larkin (Debra Mooney) declares that he is "cured." Feeling cast adrift, Frank turns to Murphy (Candice Bergen) for moral support. It would appear that Frank couldn't have picked a better time, what with Murphy finally hiring what she regards as the "perfect secretary." This last-mentioned character is played by none other than Marcia Wallace, reprising her role as Carol from the old Bob Newhart Show--and speaking of Bob (everybody take a drink!), the episode's writers haven't forgotten him either. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Jim (Charles Kimbrough) spirals into depression when his beloved dog Trickster passes away. Delivering a tearful eulogy to the late pooch on the air, Jim is clearly in no condition to carry on his accustomed duties--or at least that's the opinion of the "FYI" staff. To help out their colleague, the staffers first arrange for Jim to visit Frank's therapist, then hold their own memorial service for Trickster--a truly unforgettable occasion! ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Roseanne gets into a car crash when her old boss, Mrs. Wellman (Debra Mooney), hits the Conner family station wagon. After the accident sends her to the hospital, Roseanne decides she is entitled to some money. Dan enlists the help of a lawyer friend, who tells them that they won't make a dime by going to court. Jackie gets angry and confronts Mrs. Wellman at the beauty shop, causing the wealthy woman to write out a check as an apology. At first, Roseanne is insulted and threatens to sue, but she eventually comes around and accepts the money. Filmmaker Penelope Spheeris co-wrote this episode. ~ Andrea LeVasseur, All Movie Guide

Robin Williams toned down his usually manic comic approach in this successful period drama. In 1959, the Welton Academy is a staid but well-respected prep school where education is a pragmatic and rather dull affair. Several of the students, however, have their thoughts on the learning process (and life itself) changed when a new teacher comes to the school. John Keating (Williams) is an unconventional educator who tears chapters of his textbooks and asks his students to stand on their desks to see the world from a new angle. Keating introduces his students to poetry, and his free-thinking attitude and the liberating philosophies of the authors he introduces to his class have a profound effect on his students, especially Todd (Ethan Hawke), who would like to be a writer; Neil ( Robert Sean Leonard), who dreams of being an actor, despite the objections of his father; Knox (Josh Charles), a hopeless romantic; Steven (Allelon Ruggiero), an intellectual who learns to use his heart as well as his head; Charlie (Gale Hansen), who begins to lose his blasé attitude; unconventional Gerard (James Waterston); and practical Richard (Dylan Kussman). Keating urges his students to seize the day and live their lives boldly; but when this philosophy leads to an unexpected tragedy, headmaster Mr. Nolan (Norman Lloyd) fires Keating, and his students leap to his defense. Dead Poets Society was nominated for four Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Actor for Williams; it won one, for Tom Schulman's original screenplay. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

The CIA plays footsie with the Mob in Agent on Ice. Secret service boss Clifford David conspires with Mafia chieftan Louis Pastore in a plot to assassinate "inconvenient" political leaders. Young CIA operative Tom Ormeny, who has no inkling of David's plan, is ordered to kill Pastore-who, as it turns out, isn't killed at all. Set up as a fall guy, Ormeny is disgraced and fired from the service. His only hope for redemption is to prove that Pastore is still alive, still doing the CIA's dirty work. Though partially set in Europe, Agent on Ice was filmed entirely in New Jersey-and looks it. John Pastore, who plays the "assassinated" Mafia boss, also produced the film. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Michael Dorsey (Dustin Hoffman), a brilliant but troublesome New York actor, has managed to alienate every producer on both coasts. Michael's agent George Fields (Sydney Pollack) can't even get his client a commercial since Michael complained that the tomato he was playing wasn't properly motivated. "You were a tomato!" screams George in desperation, adding that Michael is so obnoxious that he will probably never work again. Dorsey thinks otherwise; when he hears of an opening on a popular soap opera, he applies for the job--even though the job is for a woman. Posing as "Miss Dorothy Michaels," Michael wins the part and becomes a widely-known actress. Yet complications ensue when Michael falls for his co-star Julie (Jessica Lange, in an Oscar-winning performance) but, as Dorothy, is courted by Julie's widowed father (Charles Durning). Michael ultimately finds that his disguise as a woman has made him a better man. One of the classic comedies of the 1980s, Tootsie's gender-bending premise boasts a screenplay by Larry Gelbart and Murray Schisgal, and by a host of memorable supporting comic performances from Dabney Coleman, Teri Garr, George Gaynes, and Bill Murray. Future Oscar-winner Geena Davis makes her screen debut as a daytime drama queen, which indeed she had been before Tootsie came along. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
