The F.B.I. inagurates its ninth season (originally telecast in a 7:30PM Sunday timeslot, one half-hour earlier than its traditional 8 PM berth) with an all-points-bulletin manhunt for three clever ex-cons. The crooks have pulled off a $4,000,000 heist at an armored car firm, leaving Inspector Erskine (Efrem Zimbalist Jr.) eating their dust. The only clues Erskine has to work on are eyewitness accounts of a blue pickup truck (a Ford, of course!) and a tiny sample of type-B blood. This episode marks the first appearance of Shelly Novack as Special FBI agent Chris Daniels. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
Inspector Erskine (Efrem Zimbalist Jr.) heads to North Dakota in search of escaped murderer Vic Kiley (Gerald O'Loughlin). Having hijacked the car owned by widow Anne Williams (Mary Fickett), Kiley is forcing her to help him get by the many FBI roadblocks. Also targetted for terror is Anne's rebellious teenage son, played by a pre-superstardom David Cassidy. Throughout the episode, neither the kidnap victims nor the viewer is ever quite certain if the mercurial Kiley will kill his hostages, or keep his promise to release them once he has gotten away. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
Don Grady of My Three Sons fame guest stars as John McElroy, the irresponsible son of business executive Douglas McElroy (Murray Hamilton). After John inadvertently commits a crime on a government reservation, a mobster who witnessed the incident strongarms the boy's father into allowing his company to be taken over by the Mafia. Inspector Erskine (Efrem Zimbalist Jr.) must not only bring John to justice for his crime, but also save the boy from becoming yet another Mob casualty. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
When Penny (Angela Cartwright) offers refuge to an intergalactic thief named Ohan (Larry Ward), the fugitive gratefully entrusts a small disc to her, telling the girl that it will lead her to untold riches. At the behest of greedy Dr. Smith (Jonathan Harris]), Penny follows the disc to a magic ring that bestows the "platinum touch" upon its owner. Inasmuch as this is obviously a retelling of the King Midas legend, guess who gets the platinum touch--and guess who turns into platinum. Werner Klemperer takes time off from his Hogan's Heroes duties to play an outer-space detective named Bolix. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
