A Punjabi do-gooder sets out on a quest to track down the king of the Australian underworld, only to find that a positive attitude and a sense of basic human dignity will get him further in life than he ever could have imagined. Everyone in Happy Singh's small village is sick and tired of the boundless enthusiasm displayed by this optimistic youngster. In order to get rid of Happy, the villagers send him to bring back the nefarious head of the Australian underworld, who just so happens to be from the same village. Not only is the crime kingpin ruining his village's reputation from abroad, but his ailing parents are deeply concerned about his livelihood as well. After missing his flight to Australia, Happy winds up finding love amongst the Egyptian pyramids and is crowned king of Kangaroo Land. Rahul (Sharman Joshi) is a call center executive who silently pines for his beautiful boss Neha, but the secret to Neha's fast success is the furtive romance she has been having with her own boss - an unhappily married professional named Ranjeet. Ranjeet has grown bored with his marriage to the smart and beautiful Shikha, and despite the fact that the couple has a six year-old son Ranjeet is willing to risk it all to shower Neha with lavish gifts and enticing opportunities. Back in school, Shikha was a better student than Ranjeet, but when the couple had a son she put her professional aspirations aside in order to care for the child. These days Shikha, too, has grown bored with her marriage, and soon falls into the arms of divorced artist Akash despite the pride she has taken in her vow to always remain faithful. In another part of town, Shikha's aunt Vaijanti bides her time in an old age home. When Vaijanti's childhood sweetheart Amol returns to India after forty years in exile to spend his remaining years with her, old love blossoms anew. Shikha's sister and Neha's roommate Shruti is a thirty-something radio producer named Shruti who has fallen hard for radio talent Wishy K. Though she has recently met marriage-minded Debu though a matrimonial-oriented website, she is bored by his traditional ways and soon enters into a heated affair with the charismatic Wishy K. As Rahul realizes the potential for profit and advancement in lending the key to his vacationing uncle's apartment to co-workers seeking to have discreet flings, Neha approaches Ranjeet about making a true commitment. Carelessly snubbed and insulted by her high-powered lover, Neha attempts suicide in Rahul's uncle's apartment. Bollywood director Homi Adajania's English-language mystery-drama Being Cyrus concerns the enigmatic Cyrus Mistry (Saif Ali Khan), a foster child-turned-drifter who wheedles his way into a troubled Indian family. As the film opens, Cyrus accepts a position as the paid assistant to Dithnaw, once a highly-esteemed potter but now an eccentric, reclusive marijuana smoker who accomplishes little of note. Dithnaw lives with his wife, Katy (Dimple Kapadia) in the hill station of Panchgani, India where he holes up in his house in almost complete seclusion; his skeptical brother, the businessman Farokh (Boman Irani) lives with his wife Tina (Simone Singh) and the men's nutty father, Fardounjee (Honey Chhaya) - a millionaire forced by his two sons into living an impoverished life. Cyrus walks into this eccentric clan and virtually takes over, winning the confidence, step-by-step, of each family member. His constant strategizing and manipulation suggests that the situation is neither as placid nor as innocent as it seems on the surface, and indeed, the sociopathic Mistry harbors a hidden agenda that will soon tear the family apart. ~ Nathan Southern, All Movie Guide
