This sequel to the 1960 Village of The Damned falls short of the original well-made Sci-Fi shocker. The pretentious attempt to give the film a moral message severely weakens the plot and serves to confuse the fans of the previous film. Beautiful, strange children with genius IQ's, destructive dispositions, and ray-gun eyes, who were invaders bent on overtaking the earth in the former tale, are now a sample of mankind's future sent to the earth for the purpose of being destroyed in order to teach the present-day warlike man a lesson of some sort. Eastern Bloc seaman Stephan Vasa (Stephan Vasa) is being held prisoner by the Communists. A man claiming to represent a refugee agency approaches "Invisible Man" Peter Brady, asking Brady's help in an effort to rescue Vasa. Brady agrees, little suspecting that he is falling into a trap set by Vasa's treacherous wife Sonia (Greta Gynt), who intends to use radar to chart Brady's movements in order to kidnap him on behalf of the Enemy. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Break in the Circle is one of several late-1950s British films given American distribution by 20th Century-Fox. Forrest Tucker heads the cast as American soldier of fortune Skip Morgan, who is hired by German millionaire Baron Keller (Marius Goring). The baron wants Skip to smuggle a Polish scientist out of East Germany and into England. Our hero agrees, little knowing that the greedy Baron is pursuing an agenda that has nothing to do with freedom and democracy. Eva Bartok plays the requisite mystery woman who, like the baron, hides her true intentions from Morgan until the very end. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

A noted expatriate filmmaker's hard work to reestablish himself in Britain is nearly undone when a woman who claims to be his one-time mistress begins writing him threatening letters. This sudden revelation threatens not only his marriage but also his career. It doesn't help that the director doesn't know the blackmailer's identity. He finds out that her letters are coming from Newcastle, and so he and his wife head off to learn the truth. They meet her and his wife is so convinced that she leaves. Unfortunately, the director still doesn't recognize this woman who seems to have such intimate knowledge of him, and he begins to question his own sanity. The rest of the mystery centers on his attempts to learn the truth about the woman and her true motives. ~ Sandra Brennan, All Movie Guide

Julie Harris repeats her stage portrayal of the irrepressible Sally Bowles in John Van Druten's I Am a Camera. Set in pre-Hitler Berlin, the film details the curious, chaste relationship between Sally, an entertainer at a bawdy nightclub, and fledgling writer Christopher Isherwood (Lawrence Harvey). Shelley Winters co-stars as Natalia Landauer, whose impending marriage to a wealthy young Jewish man is imperiled by the anti-Semitism which envelops Berlin as the Nazis gain political power. If all this sounds familiar to you, it is because I Am a Camera is the non-musical precursor to the Broadway musical hit Cabaret. Both properties were based on Christopher Isherwood's Berlin Stories. Those familiar with the film version of Cabaret will notice that certain plot elements have been watered down in Camera. Examples: Isherwood's homosexuality is left unmentioned, save for Lawrence Harvey's opaque opening comment that he is "a confirmed bachelor;" and Sally Bowles' third-act abortion is changed into a false-alarm pregnancy. Also, Julie Harris' dynamic but rather overbaked interpretation of Sally is not nearly as memorable as Liza Minelli's Oscar-winning interpretation of the character in Cabaret. Still, I Am a Camera is well directed and deftly adapted for the screen (by John Collier); and even taking into consideration Ms. Harris' hamminess, she remains one of the most fascinating stage personalities of the mid-20th century. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

In this drama, a cynical sculptor finds a fresh outlook on life after meeting a lovely ballerina. He is utterly enchanted with her and begins creating a life-sized depiction of the beauty. Unfortunately, this enrages her jealous lover who brutally beats the artist. The sculptor is severely injured and begins losing his sight. He desperately needs an operation to save his failing vision, but instead focuses on finishing his work. He then tries to make the dancer believe that he doesn't care any more, but when she learns the truth she abandons her thuggish beau in favor of the sculptor. ~ Sandra Brennan, All Movie Guide

Based on a novel by Martin Albrand, Desperate Moment is set in postwar Germany. Simon van Halder (Dirk Bogarde) serving a life term for murder, escapes to prove innocence. After linking up with his girlfriend Anna de Burgh (Mai Zetterling), Simon relates, in flashback, the events leading up to his current dilemma. He also explains why he initially confessed to the crime. To tell more would be to tell all. It's rather enjoyable to watch the hero and heroine outwitting both British and German authorities, who aren't depicted as stupid, simply not equipped for so resourceful a fugitive. Billed at the bottom of the cast list, Theodore Bikel has a pivotal role. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
