A pampered Chihuahua accustomed to the living the good life in glamorous Beverly Hills must rein in her heiress instincts and rely on the kindness of strangers in order to find her way back home after becoming hopelessly lost in Mexico. Chloe (voice of Drew Barrymore) is a diamond-clad toy dog who favors traveling in her wealthy owner's purse over frolicking in an open park, and Papi (voice of George Lopez) is the kind of independent pup that she doesn't afford a second glance. When a vacation mishap leaves Chloe stranded in Mexico, the Chihuahua who doesn't speak a lick of Spanish must rely on street-smart German shepherd Delgado (voice of Andy Garcia) to guide her back home before she wanders any further south. Meanwhile, brave Papi races to the border intent on proving his love for Chloe by tracking her down and escorting her home in style. Along the way, Papi is joined by an enthusiastic pack of helpful pooches (voices of Luis Guzman, Plácido Domingo, and Eddie "Piolin" Sotelo) a pair of concerned humans (Piper Perabo and Manolo Cardona), an anxious iguana (voice of Paul Rodriguez), and a crafty rat (voice of Cheech Marin). ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

An aging artist and a young prostitute fight for survival as their realities begin to shift. Homero is a successful artist from Querétaro. He's in his late forties when he discovers that he has inherited a rare form of blindness that will gradually steal the primary colors from his vision before robbing him of sight altogether. Accepting of his fate yet unwilling to let go of the art that has given his life so much meaning, Homero attempts to stay connected to the world by adopting a stray dog, talking with prostitutes, and memorizing texts to recite to his blind father. In the process of committing those texts to memory, Homero falls deeply in love with his reading instructor, a pretty nun named Irma. Meanwhile, 17-year-old Mei is abandoned by her mother -- a famous prostitute -- at the China Galleon, a former railway station in the Mexican desert that has been converted into a whorehouse. Mei's mother has left for the United States, and she's left her daughter to work as a servant in exchange for food and lodging for her and her elderly grandparents. In order to earn some extra cash, Mei begins raising moths and sewing their elaborate wing patterns as embroidered works. She gets along well with the prostitutes, and before long, she's fallen in love with a handsome young store clerk. Later, when Homero is almost completely blind, a sympathetic taxi driver offers to take him to the China Galleon. There, kindred spirits Homero and Mei will meet either by fate, or by chance. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

Veteran screen star Tommy Lee Jones makes his directorial debut with the fractured tale of murder and injustice on the U.S.-Mexico border scripted by Amores perros and 21 Grams screenwriter Guillermo Arriaga. Mike Norton (Barry Pepper) is a fresh-faced Border Patrol officer in Cibolo County, Texas whose dedication to his new job leaves his lonely wife Lou Ann (January Jones) with little to do but spend her days at the local diner, where she strikes up a friendship with waitress Rachel (Melissa Leo). Despite her own status as a married woman, Rachel is unfulfilled in her marriage and is intimately involved with both rugged rancher Pete Perkins (Tommy Lee Jones) and local Sherrif Belmont (Dwight Yoakam). Soon after Pete hires Mexican illegal Melquiades Estrada (Julio Cesar Cedillo) as a ranch hand, the growing bond between the pair is suddenly shattered when, in a moment of panic on a routine patrol, Mike hastily guns down the innocent Melquaides. When an enraged Pete learns that Mike had unceremoniously buried the illegal immigrant in an unmarked desert grave and local authorities opt to overlook the case, he kidnaps the crooked lawman and sets out to ensure that justice is served with or without the involvement of the local police force. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide
