Inspired by the works of celebrated horror fiction author H.P. Lovecraft, this apocalyptic frightener tells the story of a Seattle history professor who becomes caught up in a frightful and rapidly accelerating series of strange events after returning to his estranged family on the Oregon coast and discovering that his father is involved with a bizarre New Age cult. Upon returning home to execute his late mother's will, the professor enters into a long-awaited affair with his beautiful best friend from childhood. Later, the professor uncovers evidence that the members of his father's cult are anticipating a large-scale event that will forever alter the way humankind views the universe. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

Essentially an updating of Apollo 13, this taut made-for-TV thriller follows the courageous collaborative effort between NASA's Mission control, a space shuttle crew, and their families after an in-space accident endangers their latest mission and forces them to somehow make it back to Earth for an emergency landing. ~ Sandra Brennan, All Movie Guide

It's Reversal of Fortune meets Jerry Springer in this made-for-TV miniseries, which concerns the true-life tale of a Texas oil magnate on trial for conspiring to murder his brassy ex-wife -- and for very successfully doing away with her lover and daughter. Texas Justice stars Peter Strauss as Cullen Davis, a millionaire businessman who falls in love with the tempestuous, lower-class Priscilla (Heather Locklear), a young woman with a checkered past and a temper to match. When their relationship goes sour, Cullen's jealousy flares up and he does the unthinkable -- but in the courtroom, he attempts to clear his name with the help of the grandstanding, high-powered attorney Richard Haynes (Dennis Farina). ~ Michael Hastings, All Movie Guide
Not long after he lost that "chicken run" to James Dean in Rebel Without a Cause (1955), actor Corey Allen switched professional gears to become a prolific film and TV director. Allen was responsible for putting television perennials James Brolin and Lisa Hartman through their paces in Beverly Hills Cowgirl Blues. Brolin plays a Beverly Hills cop who teams up with a luscious female private eye from Texas (Hartman, of course). While Brolin prefers peace and quiet, Hartman insists upon rooting out the murderer of a debutante-turned-hooker. Since both stars were gainfully employed on other TV series when Beverly Hills Cowgirl Blues first aired on October 5, 1985, we hesitate to suggest that this film was the pilot for a potential series. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
The Dukes are dumbfounded when Daisy (Catherine Bach) is identified as the long-lost granddaughter of millionaire Carter Stewart (played by versatile veteran Lyle Talbot). Though Boss Hogg doubts that Daisy is indeed the heiress, he hires the disreputable Professor Crandall (Walker Edmiston) to hypnotize the girl into believing that she is truly whom Stewart thinks she is--little suspecting that the old man's other relatives intend to murder Daisy the minute she sets foot on the Stewart estate. Though traditionally unbilled for his contributions as the series' "balladeer", Waylon Jennings is afforded a rare on-screen starring credit in this episode. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
Yes, friends, the world will come to an end in the year 2000. This time, folks, we're not relying on mere Biblical prophecy, but on The Jupiter Menace. Gather closely, friends, as we tell you how, thanks to the gravitational pull of the largest planet in the Solar System, the earth will be thrown off its Axis. This won't happen, mind you, on December 29, 1999 or the 30th, or the 31st ; no, this disastrous event won't take place until the ball drops in Times Square and the world celebrates the coming of 2000. It's nice to know that our fate has been so succinctly pinpointed. Jupiter Menace is narrated by actor George Kennedy, who at last report was stocking up on breath fresheners, just in case the stores are all closed after the Apocalypse. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

In a hermetically sealed, post-apocalyptic urban environment several centuries hence, Logan 5 (Michael York) and his friend Francis 7 (Richard Jordan) lead unquestioning lives of hedonism. Entertainment comes in the form of casual sexual liaisons and gladiatorial games in which those who do not wish to undergo euthanasia at the age of 30 vie for the illusory chance of continued life. As "sandmen," Logan and Francis are charged with tracking down and killing "runners" -- those citizens who will submit to neither "renewal" (a peaceful death) nor "carousel" (a gladiatorial battle) when their time comes. When Logan grows intrigued by a beautiful young woman, Jessica 6 (Jenny Agutter), who plans to become a runner, he is forced to question the fundamental principles of his society. And when his superiors force him to pose as a runner himself to weed out Jessica's guerilla underground, Logan finds himself fleeing the city in search of a mythical place called Sanctuary where people are allowed to live out their natural spans. ~ Brian J.
