Stefan Herheim staged a theatrical production of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's 1782 three-act opera singspiel Die Entführung aus dem Serail at the Saltzburger Festspiele, filmed live and now available in this home video release. Composed by Mozart to a libretto by Christoph Friedrich Bretzner, the work concerns the lovely Konstanze, who has become ensconced in the Pasha Selim's harem and must be rescued by her lover, Belmonte, and his servant, Pedrillo. The Herheim production stars Laura Aikin, Valentina Farcas, Charles Castronovo, Dietmar Kerschbaum and Franz Hawlata; the Wiener Staatsopenchor and Salzburg's Mozarteum Orchester, conducted by Ivor Bolton, provide musical accompaniment. ~ Nathan Southern, Rovi
