Philadelphia-born, British-educated actress Lauren Cohan studied drama and English literature at the University of Winchester and King Alfred's College in England, then spent a healthy amount of time touring with a theatrical ensemble that she had co-established before moving into film and television work. Ever a versatile performer, Cohan showcased her talents in both classically oriented fare (such as the big-screen historical saga Casanova, in 2005) and more commercially oriented outings, such as 2006's National Lampoon's Van Wilder: The Rise of Taj. Separated from his wife of many years and left with no one to turn to for guidance or advice, the fifty-five year old owner of a small ice cream parlor moves in with his two bachelor employees, giving everyone involved the opportunity to reevaluate their lives and reassess their priorities. It's summer, and business at Ray Fulton's ice cream shop is booming. His slick manager Gevorg and his enthusiastic underling do their best to keep the business running as smooth as soft serve, yet a series of events are about to unfold that will show these three men just how unpredictable life can truly be. One afternoon, after Ramon gets into an altercation at work, Ray is forced to let him go. While Gevorg is kind enough to take Ramon in long enough for him to find a new job and get back on his feet, a second disaster follows in quick succession when Ray's long-time wife decides to file for separation seemingly out of the blue and for reasons the unsuspecting parlor owner can't fully understand. Recognizing another friend in need - and still with room to spare in his spacious home - Gevorg opens his doors to Ray as well. Later, just as the three men are beginning to settle into a comfortable routine, Ray's daughter Emily arrives in town on a mission to rescue her parents' relationship. But Ray is so wrapped up in his quest to rediscover his own identity that he doesn't seem to have much time for Emily, leaving her to form an unlikely bond with Gevorg that prompts the smooth-talking womanizer to take a second look at his rambunctious lifestyle. History's most renowned ladies' man finally meets his match in this historical romance laced with comedy and adventure. In Venice in 1753, Giacomo Casanova (Heath Ledger) is a notorious playboy whose way with women goes too far when he's caught leaving the bedroom of a novice nun, and one of the leading prosecutors of the Inquisition, Pucci (Jeremy Irons), puts him on trial. The Doge (Tim McInnerny), Venice's political point man, is a friend of Casanova's and pulls strings to get him off the hook and allow him to stay in the city, but under one condition -- he must take a wife and remain faithful to her. Casanova sets his sights on Victoria (Natalie Dormer), a lovely young maiden who is obviously taken with the handsome ladykiller, but he's not the only one who wants her hand. Giovanni Bruni (Charlie Cox) is a young man who is very much in love with Victoria, and in order to move him out of the picture, Casanova challenges him to a duel. However, when Casanova is bested in swords in the challenge, he discovers he's actually been parrying with Giovanni's sister, Francesca (Sienna Miller). As Casanova gets to know Francesca, he discovers she's a gifted writer and a bright and independent woman as well as a good hand with a sword, and he comes to the realization that she's the woman he wants to take to the altar. However, Francesca has already been promised to the vain and chubby Papprizzio (Oliver Platt), a man she's never met, and she doesn't seem at all interested in the notorious Casanova.
