A political neophyte recruits an out-of-work reporter to help take on a Seattle city councilman, waging a valiant fight to create an urban monorail system instead of a proposed ground rail train. The year is 2001, and Grant Cogswell (Joel David Moore) has a vision: he sees a state-of-the-art monorail system connecting the city of Seattle as it's never been before. But there's one man standing in his way, and that's Seattle city councilman Richard McIver (Cedric the Entertainer). Councilman McIver has drawn up plans for an ambitious rail system -- one that Cogswell believes will be bad for the environment, and divide the city even more. Short-fused, foul-mouthed, and determined to defeat the political incumbent at all costs, Cogswell hires unemployed alternative weekly columnist Phil Campbell (Jason Biggs) to launch a massive political campaign, and quickly finds a collection of rabid volunteers who are willing to rally for his cause. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

A computer programmer experiencing a crisis of faith unwittingly becomes the subject of a bizarre experiment that yields unexpected consequences in this innovative, character-driven comedy punctuated by imaginative animation. Laid off from his job as a computer programmer while locked in the midst of a spiritual crisis, Dory trades in his suit and tie for a janitor's uniform and goes to work cleaning toilets with a misfit troupe of custodial engineers. It's there that Dory becomes the subject of a strange experiment involving highly addictive cookies that warm in your mouth while being eaten, effectively simulating that "oven fresh" taste. But these cookies have some particularly strange side effects, including surreal hallucinations, spectacular mood swings, and, ultimately, quasi-pregnancies in the male janitorial staff. As the men carry their pregnancies to term, they band together as midwives to support one another while each delivers a tiny, radiant, immaculately conceived blue fish. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

In 2005 a bizarre new story spread from the sleepy rural town of Enumclaw, WA -- a man died of internal injuries sustained while attempting a sexual act with a horse. It was discovered the man was part of a small group of zoophiliacs -- people who crave erotic contact with animals -- and that they had been engaging in various activities with local animals for some time. While investigating the incident, Washington police authorities discovered the state had no laws on the books concerning bestiality, and Sen. Pam Roach quickly introduced legislation which would make it illegal. While the story became a national news item after hitting the Internet, Seattle-based filmmaker Robinson Devor was curious about what sort of people became involved in the underground world of zoophilia, and Zoo is a docudrama which explores the horse sex case, the other members of the zoophile ring (two members of the group participated in the production of the film), the animal rescue organization that took possession of the horses, and the legislators and law enforcement officers who reacted to the case. Originally produced under the title In the Forest There Is Every Kind of Bird, Zoo was screened in competition at the 2007 Sundance Film Festival. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

A young actress who has recently landed her first leading role finds herself haunted by her thirteen-year-old self in director Lynn Shelton's slightly surreal tale of one woman's attempt to reconcile her past. The one thing that Kate has always wanted was to be on stage and under the spotlight. When the tireless actress lands her first stage role on her twenty-third birthday and reads a letter she had written to herself at the age of thirteen, it appears as if all of her wildest dreams may finally be coming true. The letter seems to have a strange effect on Kate's psyche, however, and as the younger incarnation of Kate begins to speak to her as well as appear before her in a series of fleeting visions, the aspiring actress gradually begins to lose both her self-confidence and her once dogged determination to succeed. As Kate's resolve weakens the visions of her adolescent self become increasingly vivid until, in one shocking act of self-confrontation, the thirteen-year-old Kate finally manifests in the flesh to go toe-to-toe with the woman she will soon become. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi
