A young man uses his vermin pals to exact revenge upon the people who've domineered his life in this remake of the 1971 cult classic. Starring Crispin Glover in the role originated by Bruce Davison, Willard concerns the mundane, repressed existence of the twentysomething title character, who lives at home with his nagging mother (Jackie Burroughs) and works at a shipping company for a stern, authoritarian supervisor (R. Lee Ermey). When Willard becomes fascinated with a gaggle of rats living in his decrepit home, they become both his friends and his aggressors, as he sics them upon anyone who crosses his path. But one rat, Ben, isn't so amenable to Willard's orders, and a horrifying test of wills begins. Willard was brought to the screen for the second time by writer/director Glen Morgan and producer James Wong, who previously worked together on episodes of The X-Files as well as the features Final Destination and The One. ~ Michael Hastings, All Movie Guide

In this epic Ron Howard film, Joseph Donelly (Tom Cruise) is an impoverished 19th-century Irish tenant farmer who has recently lost both his father and his home to the agents of his unscrupulous landlord. On a mission to avenge his family's injustice at the hands of the ruthless land baron Joseph meets the landlord's daughter and the two run off to America together where the girl expects to claim a piece of land for herself in the Oklahoma Land Rush. After she is robbed on the boat that carries them to America, they arrive with nary a penny and struggle just to keep their heads above water in the slums of Boston. After a series of serious set-backs they do eventually work their way out West, where Joseph must fight to realize his dream and claim a piece of the American Dream for himself -- and where they finally acknowledge their love for each other. Shot in wide-screen Panavision, the movie was filmed on-location in Ireland and Montana. ~ Iotis Erlewine, All Movie Guide

Fatal Attraction plus Basic Instinct equals Fatal Instinct. We're sure the producers would deny this equation, but listen to the plot. A handsome cop investigates a brutal murder, in which a mysterious, erotically inclinded woman is involved. Before long, he falls prey to the woman's obsessiveness. Viewers can see this one in either an R rated version or an unrated cut. Stars Michael Madsen and Laura Johnson have both been far better elsewhere. This 1992 Fatal Instinct should not be confused with the 1993 Carl Reiner spoof of the same name. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

In this the third in the "Angel" series, former hooker Angel is reunited with her mom just long enough to make friends (her mom left when Angel was a baby) and learn that she has a half-sister somewhere. Mom is soon the victim of some sort of hit squad and Angel decides to find her half-sister and avenge her mom's death. Her half-sister, it turns out, is a prostitute, and former-hooker Angel, virtuously "born-again," is dead-set against prostitution so she's out to save her sibling. Unlike its predecessors, there's lots of nudity in this film. ~ All Movie Guide

This cheap-looking gore item from Charles Band's soon-to-topple Empire Productions is the first in a long line of sex-n-gore exploitation quickies from director David DeCoteau. The story revolves around the inept creator of tacky death-rock ditties, whose latest heavy-metal headache summons a shapely demon who alternately seduces and dismembers nearly all of the drunken revelers at an all-night sorority bash. There's lots of fake-looking gore, lousy effects and plentiful T&A on display, all of which would become instantly recognizable as the earmarks of a signature DeCoteau epic... although DeCoteau's favorite topliner -- ubiquitous "Scream Queen" Linnea Quigley -- is sadly absent here. ~ Cavett Binion, All Movie Guide

From the prolific (if not particularly inspired) "B"-movie cheese factory of Charles Band, this sci-fi/horror morsel is set during a nuclear/biological war, and involves an AWOL military team (including the ubiquitous Linnea Quigley) as they take shelter from the relentless acid rain in an abandoned research facility. As it turns out, the building is not abandoned at all but the happy home of legions of greasy, oversized rats and an outrageously drippy man-in-a-rubber-suit monster. The K-Y-covered creep is clearly one of Alien's countless bastard offspring... but the similarities don't stop there, as several intrepid troopers take to the air vents to flush out the belligerent beastie. Veteran exploitation director David De Coteau tries to keep things interesting by rounding up practically every science fiction and horror cliche ever invented (there's even a killer baby that's a dead ringer for the It's Alive! tyke) and drenching everything with blood, slime and alien saliva -- but the abundant goop still can't disguise the fact that there's nothing worthwhile underneath. ~ Cavett Binion, All Movie Guide

This undistinguished drama goes no further than clichéd views about women who gain success by bedding down those who have it. Pia Zadora stars as Jerilee, just out of high school and married to a prominent Hollywood screenwriter, with her own heart-felt aspirations to get her screenplays noticed by the right producers. Her marriage fails for many reasons and once on her own, she comes to the difficult decision that she really will go nowhere fast unless she uses her sexual charms to pave the way to recognition -- and so she does, with a bit of revenge thrown in at the end for good measure. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, All Movie Guide
