The 28th Instance of June 1914, 10:50 a.m. is an award-winning and amusing profile of two eccentric gay artists, David McDermott and Peter McGough. Conceptual artists, they live without electricity or modern plumbing and surround themselves with clothing, furniture, and artifacts from the Victorian age. When the weekend comes, the lovers drive their 1914 Roadster to their farm in the Catskill Mountains to relax. Their work consists of paintings, films, and magazines, which offer a romanticized taste of the bygone era. The video presents an entertaining look into the strange lives of these two men.

Andy Warhol was a phenomenon who warrants a lot of explaining: a completely colorless mega-star celebrity, and a kind of LaBrea Tarpit for a vivid and talented collection of oddballs in the New York scene. He fostered their continued degeneration into weird lifestyles and heavy drug use; and at the same time acted as their mentor, agent, and sponsor. One artist who came to be part of Warhol's "scene" was Jean Michel Basquiat, an antisocial street-bum who went from writing graffiti on alley walls to being the toast of New York City's art world. This film biography chronicles the progression of Basquiat (Jeffrey Wright) and his progression from living in cardboard boxes to penthouses, his romances, his drug use, and his death in 1988 at age 27. Along the way, he never stopped detesting the rich, including art agent Bruno Bischofberger (Dennis Hopper), and he never lost his naivete. Warhol (David Bowie) picks up some of the pieces as Basquiat lurches through the art scene. Cameo appearances by Tatum O'Neal and Courtney Love add spice to this interesting film. ~ Clarke Fountain, All Movie Guide

A charming portrait of Quentin Crisp, who has (very deliberately) become the closest thing this century has to an Oscar Wilde. Crisp moved to New York City at the age of 73 and has many devoted friends and admirers who sing his praises. Indeed, pop star Sting literally "sings" of Quentin in his hit "Englishman in New York." Other fans who make appearances in the film include John Hurt, Fran Lebowitz and director Paul Morrissey. Of course, not everyone loves Quentin, as we learn primarily in a segment from the Sally Jesse Raphael show. He is not only a frequent target of homophobic attacks but is described by one homosexual as a "gay Stepin Fetchit." Overall, though, this is certainly a sympathetic documentary which may even provoke a grudging admiration from the viewer. ~ John Voorhees, All Movie Guide

Was Adolf Hitler a homosexual? Lothar Machtan is a well-respected German historian who, in 2001, published a book called The Hidden Hitler, in which he speculated that the infamous Nazi leader was gay in his secret life. What was the basis for Machtan's theory? And how would our perspective on Hitler and the Third Reich be changed if he was in fact gay? The Hidden Führer: Debating the Enigma of Hitler's Sexuality is a documentary which offers an in-depth look at Machtan's book and the potential implications of Hitler's homosexuality in terms of world history and the gay movement. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide
