Along with her friends Amos (Tom Bosley) and Seth (William Windom), Jessica (Angela Lansbury) decides to sample the cooking at Cabot Cove's newest tourist attraction, the Joshua Peabody Inn. Casting a pall over the evening is a batch of spoiled strawberry preserves, causing several patrons to become seriously ill. Not long after he lost that "chicken run" to James Dean in Rebel Without a Cause (1955), actor Corey Allen switched professional gears to become a prolific film and TV director. Allen was responsible for putting television perennials James Brolin and Lisa Hartman through their paces in Beverly Hills Cowgirl Blues. Brolin plays a Beverly Hills cop who teams up with a luscious female private eye from Texas (Hartman, of course). While Brolin prefers peace and quiet, Hartman insists upon rooting out the murderer of a debutante-turned-hooker. Since both stars were gainfully employed on other TV series when Beverly Hills Cowgirl Blues first aired on October 5, 1985, we hesitate to suggest that this film was the pilot for a potential series. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

In the course of the evening, some valuable jewels are stolen, and the chief suspect is none other than Higgins--who, still in a daze, imagines himself to be that eminent Shakespearean actor "Sir Fearing Pangborn." In order to solve the case and clear Higgins, Magnum must rely on his knowledge of Agatha Christie mysteries, as gleaned from a recent movie marathon on TV. Part of the fun in this episode is watching the series regulars cavorting in their celebrity costumes, with Magnum dressed Dashiel Hammett, Rick (Larry Manetti) made up as Charlie Chaplin, and T.C. Unfortunately, among the revellers are a number of uninivited guests, including a pair of gun-wielding escaped convicts, a pregnant woman about to go into labor, and a person whose mission in life is to murder Masters. As for Magnum (Tom Selleck), he can't help but notice that this perilous situation bears more than a passing resemblance to one of his favorite Humphrey Bogart pictures, Key Largo--but this is no movie, and a happy ending may not be in the cards! For a while, it looks like the waitresses are going to win--but that's when the competition starts flushing up the dirty tricks. O'Hara's first assignment: To break up a gang of smugglers trafficking in hashish. First telecast April 2, 1971 on CBS, this film served as the pilot for the weekly TV series O'Hara, United States Treasury. My Blood Runs Cold was a typically lurid horror chiller produced and directed by William Conrad during his 1960s tenure on the Warner Bros. staff. Heiress Joey Heatherton falls prey to the charms of a handsome young man (Troy Donahue) who claims to be the reincarnation of a legendary lothario. Troy further insists that Joey had been his lover in a previous life. Pretty soon Joey nearly has the opportunity to check out the veracity of Troy's story in the Hereafter, for Mr. Donahue is actually a psychopath who hopes to claim Ms. Heatherton's fortune and then bump her off. My Blood Runs Cold is silly enough to have been dreamt up by Bill Conrad while he was narrating Rocky and His Friends. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
