John McCallum Movies

Handsome Australian leading man John McCallum began appearing in films in 1935. Ten years later, McCallum moved to England, where for the next decade he essayed a wide variety of movie roles. His co-star in It Always Rains on Sunday was actress Googie Withers, whom he married in 1948. In 1955, McCallum and his wife resettled in Australia, where he acted in such films as Smiley (1956) before devoting his energies to screenwriting, producing, and, on one occasion (1971's The Nickel Queen), directing. John McCallum wrote his autobiography, Life with Googie, in 1979. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
