A Muslim cellist and a Serbian student make a desperate attempt to hide their love long enough to escape from war-torn Bosnia before the truth about their sexuality is revealed and they are put to death. Serbian aggression in Sarajevo is escalating, and now, due to his faith, Kenan's life is in grave danger. Should he be questioned, Kenan will almost certainly be put to death. Now, in order to escape to freedom, Kenan will pose as a woman and take the role of Milan's wife. Should the ruse work, the couple may be able to make it to Holland. Yet while the villagers in Milan's hometown seem convinced that Kenan is indeed Milan's bride, the powers that be may not be persuaded so easily. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

Two men dealing with the aftermath of war in the former Yugoslavia come together under curious circumstances in this black comedy from writer and director Dejan Sorak. Skoko is a hero among Croatians for his legendary bravery under fire during the war against the Serbs. But now Skoko has been accused of taking part in a massacre that violated the rules of war and he's being tried in a well-publicized court case by the Hague War Tribunal. Skoko needs to come up with an alibi, and with the help of his associate Antisa (Tarik Filipovic) they hatch a story that Skoko had been kidnapped by two thugs who claimed he owed them money, and was being held hostage at the time of the slaughter. However, the thugs being fingered by Skoko are uncooperatively unavailable at the time of the trail, so Antisa finds a pair of look-alikes to take the stand in their place. Ante (Goran Navojec) is a Croatian refugee who is recruited to help his people's hero while killing time at a diner, while Dusko (Borko Peric) is a Serb who is willing to do anything for money now that his unfaithful wife has promised his kidney to a black-market organ dealer. Ante and Dusko both seem to enjoy the excitement of impersonating bad guys for such an august audience, but they don't get along well at all, with their national alliances polarizing them despite the fact they have a great deal in common. Dva Igraca S Klupe (aka Two Players From the Bench) received its North American premiere at the 2006 Tribeca Film Festival. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide
