Dean Paul Martin Movies

The son of actor/singer Dean Martin and Dean's second wife Jeannie, Dean Paul Martin inaugurated his own career as a member of the teenage rock group Dino, Desi and Billy (Desi was Desi Arnaz Jr.) The younger Martin attempted an acting career, which except for a well-received performance in 1979's Players was largely unremarkable. Though he would never set any fires at the box office, Martin distinguished himself as a top tennis pro, and (from all reports) as one of the nicest second-generation celebrities in Hollywood. For a short while, Martin was married to Romeo and Juliet leading lady Olivia Hussey. An officer in the California Air National Guard, 35-year-old Dean Paul Martin was killed in a jet crash during a training mission. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

Wealthy-but-troubled Vietnam vet Jeff Fahey, his trailer-trash wife Karen Allen, and drifter Keith Carradine are the characters essential to the action in Backfire. Fahey's horrific flashbacks to his days in Nam plunge him into a catatonic state. Though he has previously drawn up a document granting his wife power of attorney in case this should happen, Fahey's protective sister Dinah Manoff keeps this fact secret, hoping to cut off the mercenary Allen--and her lover Dean Paul Martin--without a penny. Drowning her problems at a local bar, Allen makes the acquaintance of Carradine, who shortly afterwards moves into the family mansion, bag and baggage. Fed up with being treated like garbage, and equally fed up with her noncommunicative husband, Allen enmeshes Carradine in an insidious plan that will regain her the riches she feels she deserves. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

Heart Like a Wheel stars Bonnie Bedelia as real-life racing champion Shirley "Cha Cha" Muldowney. Overcoming sexist hurdles, Shirley works hard to qualify for the major auto race competitions of America. Firmly in her cheering section is her dad (Hoyt Axton), and--at least at first--her husband, mechanic Jack Muldowney (Leo Rossi). When Jack, jealous of Shirley's success, leaves her, she casts her lot with troublesome banned racer Connie Kalita (Beau Bridges). The film comes to a head at the 1966 National Hot Rod Association World Championship, which Shirley eventually wins three times. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

Two 15-year-old teenagers engage in their first love affair. Dino Martin Jr. and Airion Fromer meet and fall in love with each other. Their romance is sidetracked when the girl has an affair with Mr. Christian (Kerwin Mathews), a man easily twice her age. After she has experienced the pleasures of an older man, she returns to her first love -- presumably to educate him in the ways of love. This is the second film directed by John Derek, who designed the costumes, wrote the music and lyrics to the songs, wrote the screenplay, and photographed the film. ~ Dan Pavlides, Rovi
