A young couple driving from California to Arizona to announce that they are expecting a baby are forced to contend with a malevolent stranger after getting into a near fatal car accident in this desert-bound shocker from Adam Mason, co-director of the 2006 indie thriller Broken. The year is 1969, and happily married California couple Clark and Summer have just found out that Summer is pregnant. Excited to share the good news with Summer's parents in Arizona, the couple packs up their car and heads out on the highway. Later, as they make their way through the barren and sun scorched desert, the couple is nearly killed when they experience a blow out and their car goes careening out of control. Though both have been badly injured in the accident and Summer is terrified for the health of her unborn child, they cautiously make their way to an abandoned nearby town known as Blood River. A man locked away in a mental health hospital on suspicions that he murdered his girlfriend vows to reveal the infernal truth behind the young woman's agonizing death in British horror specialist Adam Mason's satanic shocker. Nick (Andrew Howard) and Sammy (Polly Brown) were just two horny with time to kill and a pocket full of drugs. Upon discovering an abandoned asylum, the pair ventures inside and finds a bizarre contraption that appears to be a cross between an electric chair and a sadistic fetish device. It seems that this chair has the power to transform chemical bliss into unimaginable despair, and when Sammy is assaulted and brutally slain by an unknown force Nick becomes the number one suspect in her murder. Years later, after being held in a high security mental hospital, Nick is released into the care of his psychiatrist Dr. Willard (David Gant). Dr. Gant suspects that there is more to this murder than the authorities realize, and in order to prove it he organizes a special field trip to the decrepit asylum where Sammy was slain. Accompanying Nick and Dr. Willard on their excursion are a group of Dr. Willard's most prestigious students. But Nick has been diagnosed as clinically insane, and years of psychiatric treatment have irreversibly altered his perception of reality. Now, as the brutal, blood-soaked truth emerges from the darkness intent on destroying everything in it's path, Nick will have to overcome demons of both the psychological and supernatural varieties if he holds out any hope of ending the slaughter and proving his sanity. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

A woman wakes up in an unfamiliar and terrifying world in this grim horror tale inspired by a true story. After coming home from a date, forty-ish single mom Hope (Nadja Brand Mason) thanks the babysitter, looks in on her six-year-old daughter, and goes to bed. When she wakes up, Hope discovers she was abducted in the night and is trapped inside a coffin-like wooden box that's been buried beneath the ground. When she's dug up and released, Hope learns she's being held captive by a man with no name (Eric Colvin) living in the woods who then ties her to a tree and gives her a razor she can use to free herself -- though she won't be able to do so without severely scarring herself. After a failed break for freedom, Hope realizes her only chance for survival is to bend to the will of her captor, though her desire is largely fueled by a need to know what's become of her daughter. Two months later, Hope has learned more than she ever wanted to know about primitive life with her fearsome master when she's joined by a new victim, a frightened teenage girl (Abbey Stirling). Broken was the fourth feature from director Adam Mason and his first in collaboration with co-director Simon Boyes, who made his feature debut with this movie. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

The bloody past of an outwardly serine village is jarred back into terrifying reality when the daughter of the man responsible for the death and destruction returns to face her worst fears in a gore-drenched trip into the land of nightmares that follows in the tradition of The Evil Dead. It was on the day of Lany's eighth birthday that her father took the lives of fifteen people before turning the gun on himself, and the horrified screams of her neighbors still haunt Lany as a young adult. The evil didn't die with Lany's father though, and as the haunted demon hunter returns to her childhood home to confront her dark past, she quickly finds that it's going to take much more than simple fire-power to make it through the night alive. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi
