The titular monster is the multi-headed Hydra, a familiar figure in sword-and-sandal epics. The hero, played by Reg Lewis, must undergo several daunting tasks before he is considered worthy of combat with the Hydra. Though episodic, the film holds together pretty well. It is compromised only by the inconsistent camerawork and the crude English dubbing. The hero, incidentally, isn't really a "Son of Hercules"; he has been so designated so that the film will be compatible with the Sons of Hercules package syndicated to American TV stations in the early 1960s. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

In this sword and sandal epic set during Rome's attack on ancient Greece, both the Roman and Carthaginian armies are battling for possession of Syracuse. Brave Archimedes is assigned to head the defense of the city. He is temporarily distracted after his lover gets pregnant and her evil step-brother takes her to Roman soldiers. The experience affects her so deeply that she loses her memory. She then marries a Roman dignitary. Archimedes also marries and many years pass. Now the Greek hero must head for Rome to form a new alliance. There he sees his long-lost love. She sees him too and instantly regains her memory, but to spare her son unnecessary grief, she does not tell her son. Later the Romans renege and again attack Syracuse. This time, the Roman fleet is destroyed and so are the respective spouses of the star-crossed lovers. Finally freed of their constraints the two marry, but for the sake of their son, they still restrain from telling him the truth about his father. ~ Sandra Brennan, All Movie Guide

Buffed bodybuilder Steve Reeves, in his first sword-and-sandal epic since Hercules, stars as Emiliano, who seeks revenge when his village is destroyed and his father killed by marauding barbarians. Taking the name "Goliath," Emiliano straps on an animal mask and fur-covered loincloth for his raids on the enemy camps, as well as romancing the chieftain's daughter (Chelo Alonso). More brutal than most similar films, this exciting adventure from veteran director Carlo Campogalliani also features Livia Lorenzon and a brief appearances by King Kong star Bruce Cabot. ~ Robert Firsching, All Movie Guide

Fernandel plays a French customs sergeant who conducts an ongoing war of nerves with Italian smuggler Toto on the Franco-Italian border. The French sergeant discovers that, through a long-ago hospital mix-up, he is actually an Italian citizen. Now Fernandel is legally prevented from arresting Toto--and to make matters worse, he is the lawbreaker in Italian eyes because of his divorce and remarriage! The publicity attending the long-anticipated teaming of France's favorite funnyman Fernandel (born Fernand Joseph Desire Contandin) and his Italian counterpart Toto (born Antonio de Curtis Gagliardi Ducas Comneno di Bisanzio) helped to make The Law Is the Law one of the most successful films in both comedians' careers. The film, incidentally, was a French production (originally titled La Loi c'est la Loi), so in fact it was Toto, not Fernandel, who was the "alien." ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

A mix of young men and women fall in love for the first time in this standard romantic comedy by Mario Camerini. Parents also enter into the picture since their own hang-ups and virtues combine to affect their offspring's attitudes and behavior. Sometimes parents inadvertently do the wrong thing, as when the mother of a love-struck daughter ends up causing her daughter's boyfriend to fall for her -- the mother.
