One woman's day goes all to pot in this resinous comedy from independent filmmaker Gregg Araki. Jane (Anna Faris) is a college dropout and aspiring actress who suffers from a certain lack of ambition, doubtless reinforced by her fondness for marijuana. One morning, Jane wakes with a busy day ahead of her -- she has a big audition, she has to pay the electric bill on her apartment to prevent the power from being shut off, and she needs to pick up some pot after paying her debt to her dealer -- and decides to take the edge off her anxieties by getting a little stoned. Under the influence, the cupcakes her roommate Steve (Danny Masterson) has made for his friends to enjoy at the weekend's Sci-Fi convention look too good to resist, and she gobbles them down. What Jane doesn't realize until it's too late is that the baked goods were laced with some especially strong marijuana, and what starts as a pleasant buzz turns into a world-class high that refuses to go away. As Jane struggles to make her way through the day, fate keeps throwing her into strange and surreal situations involving police officers, Steve's lovesick best friend, and a rare original manuscript of The Communist Manifesto. In the glamorous world where the ability to get past the velvet rope separates the losers from the winners, one newly single guy is about to get a shot at becoming the latest inductee into the coolest club around. Barry Shlotzak is a nice guy with a psychotic girlfriend. After emancipating himself from the relationship in order to get a fresh new start in life, Barry is convinced by his best friend, Douglas, to enter into a contest designed to select an intern for the local club crew known as the "Bar Starz" -- a trendsetting group that personifies cool, and whose members can effortlessly gain access to any nightclub at any time. Now, in order to prove that they have what it takes to become an official member of the Bar Starz crew, Barry and the other aspiring Bar Starz will endure a rigorous series of tests designed specifically by lead star Donnie Pintron to assess their nightclub aptitude. Of course, you have to dress like a superstar to be a part of this crew, but that's only the beginning. A true member of the Bar Starz can stroll effortlessly past the ropes of even the most exclusive nightclub, and pick up even the hottest of babes with the least amount of effort. Clint Eastwood's adaptation of the non-fiction book Flags of Our Fathers concerns the lives of the men in the famous picture of soldiers raising the American flag over Iwo Jima during that historic WWII battle. Battle scenes are intercut with footage of three of the soldiers - played by Ryan Phillipe, Jesse Bradford, and Adam Beach -- who survived the battle going on a goodwill tour of the United States in order to sell war bonds. Many evening they are forced to reenact their famous pose, something each of them finds more and more difficult to do as they suffer from survivor's guilt. Eastwood frames the story by having one of the men's grown son (Tom McCarthy) interview his father's old comrades in order to find out more about what happened to his father. Eastwood followed this film with Letters from Iwo Jima, a second film about the battle of Iwo Jima, but told from the Japanese perspective.
