Renowned filmmaking brothers Joel and Ethan Coen re-team with frequent collaborator Steve Buscemi for this comedic entry in the anthology film Paris, Je T'Aime. The episode, which unfolds in the Paris Metro, observes the calamities that befall a hapless American loser (Buscemi). This tourist makes the pivotal mistake of ignoring his cultural guidebook by looking directly into the eyes of a jealous French boyfriend - and lives to regret it. Tuileries also stars Julie Bataille and Axel Kiener. Other contributors to the omnibus film include Alexander Payne, Wes Craven, and Gus Van Sant. ~ Matthew Tobey, Rovi

French filmmaker Eric Lartigau directs the anarchic buddy comedy Bullit and Riper, originally released as Mais qui a tue Pamela Rose? French comedic television stars Kad Merad and Olivier Barroux are both the protagonists and the screenwriters. As a parody of Hollywood cop films, the story is set somewhere in the American Midwest as fabricated by the French. After losing his regular partner, FBI agent Richard Bullit (Merad) gets assigned to the book-learned cop Riper (Barroux) to investigate the death of a stripper. American movie stereotypes abound, such as shock jock Phil Canon (Gérard Darmon) and sheriff Steve Marley (Jean-Paul Rouve). ~ Andrea LeVasseur, Rovi

One might assume that the original title of this French production was C'est La Vie. Wrong: the film was initially released as La Baule-les-Pins, then distributed to English speaking countries under a more "understandable" French cognomen. The film is set during a deceptively idyllic summer. Two young girls are fascinated bystanders as their parents' marriage dissolves and their mother takes up with a younger man. What might have been material for tear-stained drama in an American film is treated with perceptive humor in C'est La Vie. Director Diane Kurys cowrote the screenplay with Alain Le Henry. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
