American audiences who caught Ukrainian beauty Olga Kurylenko's first major international crossover role will find it difficult to forget her. She played the creepy, unnamed vampire who enters into a blood-soaked love affair with a young American tourist (Elijah Wood) in "Quartier de la Madeleine," Vincenzo Natali's five-minute contribution to the European omnibus film Paris, Je T'Aime (2006). Two women who are both prisoners of circumstance find solace in friendship in this drama from writer and director Danny Lerner. Galia (Olga Kurylenko) was born in the Ukraine, but fell in with a band of gangsters who've forced her into a career as a prostitute in Israel. Galia's minders offer to let he go back home to her family and the daughter she left behind, but in exchange she must kill one of their enemies. Galia agrees to the deal, but after murdering her target the gangsters renege on their pledge and keep her locked up in a Tel Aviv flat. Galia gets to know Elinor (Ninet Tayeb), a woman living next door who lives under the thumb of her violent husband, and as they strike up a friendship born of a mutual desire for freedom, they look for a way out of their desperate lives. Gallic writer-director Eric Barbier borrows Hitchcock's old premise of an innocent unjustly accused of lurid and brutal actions - with all evidence pointing inconveniently to him - for the Parisian-set thriller Le Serpent. Yvan Attal stars as Mandel, a slightly introverted photographer careening toward an ugly divorce from his affluent German wife. Back into his life waltzes Plender (Clovis Cornillac), a psychopath obsessed with obtaining vengeance on Mandel for a long-ago trauma that he believes the photographer caused during childhood. The revenge takes the form of a model who falsely accuses Mandel of rape and then turns up dead in the photographer's car - making him the number one suspect. At the same time, Plender begins to inveigle himself into the confidences of Mandel's unsuspecting family. Nick Nolte and Ludivine Sagnier are father and daughter in "Parc Monceau" from Alfonso Cuarón. Animator Sylvain Chomet turns his eye to a pair of living, breathing mimes in "Tour Eiffel." An interracial romance in France is offered by Gurinder Chadha in "Quais de Seine." In "Le Marais" from Gus Van Sant, a man (Gaspard Ulliel) finds himself falling for a handsome gent (Elias McConnell) who works in a print shop. Juliette Binoche plays a grieving mother in Nobuhiro Suwa's "Place des Victoires," in which she's greeted by a spectral cowboy (Willem Dafoe). Richard LaGravanese's "Pigalle" finds a long-married man (Bob Hoskins) turning to a prostitute for advice on pleasing his wife (Fanny Ardant). Gérard Depardieu and Frédéric Auburtin direct Gena Rowlands and Ben Gazzara as longtime marrieds meeting for one final pre-divorce encounter in "Quartier Latin." Steve Buscemi learns a lesson about local etiquette in the Paris Metro in "Tuileries" from Joel and Ethan Coen. In "Loin du 16ème" by Walter Salles, a housekeeper (Catalina Sandino Moreno) longs for her own child as she tends to the infant of her wealthy employer. Elijah Wood stars in "Quartier de la Madeleine," a vampire tale from Vincenzo Natali.
