This sex farce stars Angus Duncan as a lothario on a mission to sleep with five very different women. ~ Jason Ankeny, Rovi
Cashing in on the popularity of their comedy series Laugh-In, comedians Dan Rowan and Dick Martin team up ala Abbott and Costello in this spoof of old horror movies and mysteries. Rowan plays a pornographic film producer and Martin plays his star, who is having trouble sleeping at night and seriously suspects that he has become a werewolf. To verify this, the two travel to a "haunted" Gothic Long Island mansion and end up embroiled with Julie Newmar while searching, amidst a series of murders, for a missing diamond. Rowan and Martin's television show was hip and funny. Alas, this film is neither and bombed at the box-office. ~ Sandra Brennan, Rovi
- Starring:
- Dan Rowan, Dick Martin, (more)
Entranced by movie idol Roberto Rockellini, Wilma tells Fred that she'd like him to be a little more romantic--and maybe even grow a Rockelliniesque mustache. Not only does Fred raise the required lip adornment, but he also adopts a "continental" approach to his manners and speech. At first, Wilma is charmed by the new "Frederico"--but when a series of silly coincidences lead her to conclude that women literally swoon in Fred's presence, she begins worrying that she'll lose her husband to someone else. The fun really begins when Wilma becomes convinced that the "someone else" is Mrs. Slate, the wife of Fred's boss! ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
Cliff Robertson plays Tolly Devlin, an embittered ex-convict who has spent a lifetime tracking down the men who murdered his father. Desirous of handling matters on his own, Devlin pretends to be loyal to both the Mob and the Government, playing one against the other in hopes of flushing out the killers. He learns that the three surviving assassins are employed by a supposedly charitable "cover" operation known as National Projects. To get what he wants, Devlin ingratiates himself with mob boss (and outwardly solid citizen) Conners (Robert Emhardt). What Robertson didn't count on was falling in love with "Cuddles" (Dolores Dorn), which leads to his own downfall -- but not before justice is served. Producer/director/writer Fuller based Underworld USA on a series of "exposé" articles in The Saturday Evening Post; the film's release fortuitously occurred shortly after that infamous mob convention in Appalachin, New York. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
- Starring:
- Cliff Robertson, Dolores Dorn, (more)
Fred and Barney take Wilma and Betty to an amusement park, where Fred whimsically sings a tune called "The Rockin' Bird" in a "record-your-own-voice" booth. The song is heard by a talent agent known as The Colonel (whose most recent client was a "boy with sideburns"), and before long Fred has been transformed into the latest singing sensation, "Hi Fye." Unfortunately, fame quickly goes to Fred's head, obliging Wilma and Betty to sabotage his career. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
Fed up with the ever-rising cost of living, Fred and Barney decide to hunt for food, just like their ancestors (cave men have ancestors?) However, a smooth-talking snorkasaurus, who sounds and acts just like Phil Silvers, throws a monkey wrench in our heroes' plans during a hunting trip. Contrary to popular belief, this snorkasaurus is NOT the Flintstone's house pet Dino, though he bears the same name. Listen for the reference to Bridge on the River Kwai when the Flintstones' and the Rubbles' picnic is invaded by ants. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
Fred tries out his hypnotic skills on Wilma, but she only laughs at his efforts. However, Fred's mesmerizing does have a unique effect on Barney--who is now convinced that he's a dog! Howard McNear, better known as Floyd the Barber on The Andy Griffith Show, is heard as an aphorism-spouting doctor, and there's a terrific punchline gag in the climactic dog-pound scene. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
Thinking they've signed up for a contest, Fred and Barney end up in the army for a three-year hitch. Somehow or other they also "volunteer" as astronauts for the first guided-missile trip to the moon (quite an accomplishment for a pair of stoneagers). Voice actor Jerry Mann agains performs his Phil Silvers impersonation as (what else?) an army sergeant, and there's a cute verbal gag involving the international arms race: It seems that the slingshot has made the bow and arrow obsolete! ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
A Hollyrock movie company shows up in Bedrock to film their latest horror epic, "The Monster from the Tar Pits." Fred manages to wangle a job on the picture, which requires him to parade around town in a monster costume. Things get literally sticky when Fred ends up as stunt double for the film's star, Gary Granite (Gary's costars are those eminent thespians Rock Pile and Wednesday Thursday--a gag that will have significance to those who can remember the firestorm of publicity surrounding actress Tuesday Weld back in 1960!) ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
Entering a slogan contest for Mother Murphy's Meatballs, Wilma and Betty win first prize: a free trip to the movie capitol of Hollyrock. Husbands Fred and Barney manage to tag along, just in time to witness Wilma being "discovered" by a big-time movie producer. Angry over this turn of events, Fred storms onto the movie set and raises Holy Heck--whereupon he is chosen to star in a new TV series, "The Frogmouth"! ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
Amateur magician Fred tests out a "magic cabinet", using his wife Wilma and his pal Barney's wife Betty as guinea pigs. If the cabinet works properly, the girls should disappear. Amazing, this is exactly what happens--whereupon Fred and Barney, enjoying their temporary bachelor status, head off to the Rockland nightclub to hear some jazz music, courtesy of Hot Lips Hannigan. What the boys don't know is that Wilma and Betty haven't disappeared at all; in fact, they're on the way to Rockland even as we speak! ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
