Christopher Morahan directed this nail-biting suspense melodrama that takes a cynical look at the medical profession. Matthew Harris (Paul McGann) is an unhappy intern at a London hospital who envies the staff doctors and their calling. When a physician who resembles Matthew is killed in an auto accident, Matthew decides to assume his identity so that he can attend an interview the dead man had scheduled for a post at a Bristol hospital. Matthew gets the job and is now Dr. Simon Hennessey, working in the hospital emergency room. He is assisted by friendly nurse Christine Taylor (Amanda Donohue), who ends up falling in love with him. But Matthew makes a fatal mistake and a patient dies. At the ensuing inquest, Christine takes the blame for the accident. Matthew, emboldened by the results of the inquest, decides to apply for a better job at a hospital in Salisbury. But an acquaintance from his past appears and Matthew has to kill him in order to continue with his deception. ~ Paul Brenner, All Movie Guide

When two German pilots are shot down over a village not far from London, a pair of little boys -- Londoners both -- find them in the woods and then have to decide whether to help the pilots or turn them in. The father of one of the boys was killed by Germans when he was escaping his sinking ship in a lifeboat, an act that would not argue for any reciprocal mercy on the son's part. Both boys are staying with an off-beat British couple (a captain of the Home Guard and a French school teacher) whose viewpoints on life contrast greatly with the way the two boys were raised -- not making their decision any easier. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, All Movie Guide

A guilt-ridden plastic surgeon becomes murderously obsessed with restoring the beautiful face of his fashion-model fiancee in this horror film. It was he, in a jealous rage, who accidentally disfigured her, when he burst into a photography session, got into a fight with the cameraman and ended up burning her face with a hot lamp. Now, desperate to restore her, he begins harvesting the pituitary glands and the facial skin (removed with a laser) from the severed heads of prostitutes and using them on her wounded face. It works, but they pay a price and both become increasingly insane because the "beauty treatment" is only temporary. One day, an angry band of hippies storms the doctor's house, for he has killed one of their friends. Using his deadly laser, the doctor tries to defend himself, but the laser goes out of control causing all sorts of death and gory destruction. Fortunately, things are not as they seem, and at that point the surgeon awakens from his nightmare and prepares to take his beautiful fiancee to a party. The promo posters for the film advertised "This Is Not a Woman's Picture! No women will be allowed in alone!" ~ Sandra Brennan, All Movie Guide
