Tim Allen and Chiwetel Ejiofor co-star in writer/director David Mamet's martial arts drama Redbelt. Ejiofor plays Mike Terry, a jujitsu master who co-runs a very modest martial arts studio in Los Angeles with his bossy wife, Sondra (Alice Braga). Mike demonstrates an unwavering commitment to his craft and draws a cadre of defiantly loyal pupils including Joe (Max Martini), an LAPD cop. All told, it appears that he has chosen a peaceful and conflict-free path in life. The dedicated martial artist's fate takes an unanticipated turn, however, one evening when a young woman named Laura (Emily Mortimer) bursts into the academy in a state of near hysteria, and reaches for a policeman's gun when he tries to restrain her. One thing leads to another, and before long, Laura is regularly receiving martial arts lessons from Mike. As master begins to teach pupil and his martial arts philosophies emerge, his path also crisscrosses with that of a Hollywood movie star, Chet Frank (Tim Allen), when he saves the fellow from a beating at a local club and gets invited (along with Sondra) to Chet's house for dinner. Chet extends gestures of friendship, and Mike's guard breaks down; he speaks openly and candidly of a special martial arts method he employs that requires one of the participants to "assume a handicap." A noxious stench and a perfect derriere send the mind of a perverse pawn shop proprietor spinning into insanity in a darkly humorous tale of mental malaise from director Heitor Dhalia. Lourenço takes perverse pleasure in profiting from the misfortune of his fellow man. A pawn shop owner who relishes in the power that he holds over the desperate visitors to his modest store, Lourenço becomes fixated on a smell that seems to be coming from the bathroom drain and proves virtually impossible to eradicate. Another of Lourenço's strange obsessions is the behind of a waitress who works in a nearby restaurant. Though he hates the food she serves and can't even remember her name as hard as he tries, Lourenço's fixation on the waitress' shapely buttocks proves as difficult to shake as the repulsive smell which seems to have worked it's way into his very pores. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

A man in love uses a woman's misfortune to get to know her better in this romantic drama. Dolores (Alice Braga) is a student from Brazil who comes to California to study at San Diego State University. Damian (Diego Luna) is a Mexican journalist who has become infatuated with the lovely Dolores. One evening, Dolores and a handful of her classmates head down to Tijuana for an evening of partying, and Damian tags along. While dancing at a nightclub, Dolores drops her passport; Damian finds it later on and is planning to give it back to Dolores the next day when he gets a phone call from her -- she needs to go to Mexico City as soon as possible to replace her passport, and wants to know if he'd be willing to give her a ride. While giving Dolores back her passport would mean seeing her for a few minutes, driving her to Mexico would mean spending a day or maybe two with her, so he volunteers to give her a lift, wondering when or if he should tell her the truth. Fernando Meirelles' City of God is a sweeping tale of how crime affects the poor population of Rio de Janeiro. When Bené is killed before he can retire, Lil' Zé attempts to take out his arch enemy, Sandro Cenoura (Matheus Nachtergaele). But Sandro and a young gangster named Mane form an alliance and begin a gang war with Lil' Zé.
