FBI agents Kurt Novack (David James Elliott) and Andrea McInroy (played by Elliott's real-life wife Nanci Chambers) fly to Australia to follow up a lead on a serial killer who photographs his female victims before murdering them. Along for the ride are Novack's estranged wife Michelle (Terry Farrell) and their son Johnny (Myles Jeffrey). Although a suspect is arrested and booked, Novack cannot help but shake the feeling that the wrong man is in prison. On the flight back to the U.S., Novack discovers, in startling fashion, that his instincts are correct -- the killer is somewhere on board the plane, has struck again, and intends to add Novack's wife to his victim list. Filmed in 2001, Code 11-14 was originally scheduled to air in September of that year, but was bumped because its subliminal "terror in flight" theme struck too close a nerve with those reeling from the 9/11 terrorist attacks. The film was rescheduled for April 2003, but was again shelved, this time because of network coverage of the war in Iraq. A teacher's life is nearly destroyed when his deranged student cries rape in this Australian drama. The new philosophy professor at an all-girls' academy, Professor Justin Thorne (Jimmy Smits) has it all: a great job, a solid wife (Sarah Chadwick) and family, and the adulation of his impressionable students. But when one particularly imaginative and alluring student takes a shine to him, Thorne finds himself in court fighting for his future. Jennifer Carter (Naomi Watts), the daughter of the school's widowed headmaster, throws off her loutish boyfriend and throws herself at Thorne. Meanwhile, she keeps a diary of imaginary encounters with a phantom lover. Cornered in his office one night, Thorne gets his blood up desperately rejecting Jennifer's advances. The passion is so strong that he finds himself making love to her almost involuntarily. Soon, Jennifer shows up battered and bruised, claiming Thorne raped her, and the police seize on her diary as proof of a twisted affair. Soon, the discredited professor must suffer through character assassination in court while attempting to unravel Jennifer's tortured psyche and stay out of jail. Adrian Wright co-stars as Kenneth Carter, the accusor's stern, secretive father. Donald Crombie directed this frothy yarn taking place in Sydney, Australia during the 1920s. Liddy Clark stars as Kitty, an innocent young bride who becomes the owner of the raucous Top Hat nightclub with the assistance of a crooked cop. The story revolves around waterfront crime queens Kitty and Big Lil Delaney, and their attendant pimps, lovers, and "bagmen" (corrupt cops who are middlemen between the police and the crooks). Dennis Hopper plays the title character in this true story of a 19th-century Australian gold-digger who is pressed into a life of crime. A six-year stint in jail doesn't provide reform, but does introduce him to an Aboriginal partner-in-crime (David Gulpilil). This futuristic political drama stars Joe James as the Australian minister of defense. In seeking a military alliance with Asia, James is thwarted by his antiwar son Gerard Maguire. The film's "generation gap" seems to be its sole raison d'etre, and as such the story seems terribly antiquated when seen today (and difficult to follow, thanks to the actors' thick regional accents). Still, The Demonstrator was an important stepping stone in the revitalization of the long-dormant Australian film industry.
