Cristina (Sandra Oh) and Burke (Isaiah Washington) are ready to march down the aisle and exchange vows--or are they? An important decision reached by George (T.R. Knight) and Callie (Sara Ramirez) is clouded by thoughts of Izzie (Katherine Heigl). Alex (Justin Chambers) has trouble hiding his feelings when the husband of Rebecca Pope--aka Ava, aka Jane Doe--shows up. It's anybody's guess where things stand for Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and Derek (Patrick Dempsey) And as his wife (Loretta Devine) undergoes surgery, Dr. Webber (James Pickens Jr.) announces the name of his successor. Miraculousy, Meredith's mom Ellis (Kate Burton) becomes lucid for the first time since being stricken with Alzheimers'. Unfortunately, Ellis' first words are not entirely flattering to Meredith (Ellen Pompeo)--in fact, they're downright abusive. Meanwhile, a patient's toxic blood may prove dangerous to three of the surgeons; Izzy (Katherine Heigl) has quite a conversation with the first client at the Denny Duquette memorial clinic; Cristina (Sandra Oh) gives serious consideration to Burke's proposal; and the eminent retirement of Dr. Webber (James Pickens Jr.) results in "competition fever". The episode ends as George (T.R. Knight) and Callie (Sara Ramirez) return from Vegas with a big surprise--as if we couldn't have guessed the nature of that surprise from what took place in the previous episode! ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

In the first half of Grey's Anatomy's two-part Season Two finale, Christina (Sandra Oh) is placed in charge of the ER just as several tense situations reach the crisis stage. It looks as if heart-transplant candidate Denny (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) won't survive the night unless George (T.R. Knight) acts quickly; Derek races against time to safe the life of gunshot victim Burke; and Webber (James Pickens Jr.) tries to make a dying girl's dream come true--a particularly poignant moment, in that the girl is his own niece. And on the romantic scene, Callie (Sara Ramirez) demands to know how George really feels about her, while Derek and Addison (Kate Walsh) reach yet another crossroads. Later on, Bailey receives some strong moral support as she stands before an M&M board, defending herself from charges that she was responsible for the death of Denny Duquette. Elsewhere, It is revealed that the talented Dr. Sloan (Eric Dane) has not only been dallying with Addison (Kate Walsh), but also with Callie (Sara Ramirez); Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) decides to call it quits with Finn, and later teams with Addison to separate a divorced couple (Arye Gross, Faith Prince) who have become embarrassingly "stuck on each other"; and Izzie (Katherine Heigl) is still recovering from the news that Denny has left her $8.7 million. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

After a round of lies between Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and Cristina (Sandra Oh) about their love lives (or lack of same), the story proper gets under way with Cristina having second thoughts about moving in with Burke (Isaiah Washington), and George (T.R. Knight) threatening to move out of Meredith's house unless she meets his demands. Back at work, the staff deals with such patients as a competitive hot dog eater (Natalie N. Okamoto) suffering from what may be a terminal case of hiccups; a rock guitarist (Donovan Leitch) who loses several fingers; a woman (Jill Holden) whose drug treatment makes her abnormally cheerful; and an elderly lady (Carole Cook) who stubbornly refuses to leave after being discharged (as usual, George is stuck with this one!)
