Peter Lynch Movies
Peter Lynch directed this Canadian docudrama about events after the Canadian government authorized Laplander Andrew Bahr to feed starving Inuit in 1929 by herding several thousand reindeer from Alaska to the McKenzie River region. The project turned into a logistical nightmare, with six years spent on the 1500-mile trek. The film combines archival footage with staged sequences. Shown at the 1998 Vancouver Film Festival and the Toronto Film Festival. ~ Bhob Stewart, All Movie Guide

Troy Hurtubise is obsessed with grizzly bears and nothing makes him happier than to be facing one down. But though Hurtubise may be a tad eccentric, he is not suicidal (whether or not he is a fool is left to the viewer's discretion) and so he has devised an amazing suit of flexible armor capable of withstanding unbelievable abuse. This Canadian documentary, follows Hurtubise's odd obsession and the many travails he endured while perfecting his amazing protective suit. Though laced with humor often at the bear man's expense, the subject is a real person and his absurd tests really occurred. ~ Sandra Brennan, All Movie Guide
This wildly off-beat comedy is about a male dancer (Paul Mercurio) who refuses to follow the accepted rules of ballroom dancing and creates his own style of choreography, which infuriates the ballroom dancing establishment. Before he's scheduled to compete in the Pan-Pacific ballroom championships, he's forced to take up a new partner (Tara Morice), a beginner who initially seems without promise. With his help, she turns into an assured and wonderful dancer. Baz Luhrmann's visual style may be too bright, gaudy and exaggerated for some tastes, yet he treats his characters with compassion, which makes Strictly Ballroom such an engaging comedy. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Movie Guide

Highway 61 is an offbeat, comedic road movie about a small-town Canadian barber (Don McKellar) who finds a dead body. When a woman claiming to be the corpse's roadie sister (Valerie Buhagiar), arrives in town, he agrees to drive her and the body from Ontario to New Orleans, following Highway 61 over the entire journey. Along the way, they meet several odd characters. Though the story is poorly-paced, it has enough off-center humor and the performances are engaging enough to make it worthwhile. Rockers Jello Biafra and Tav Falco make cameos. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Movie Guide
