A man's loyalties are tested under the big top in this documentary from director Aaron Schock. Circo Mexico is a small family-run carnival that's been making its way through small towns in the Mexican countryside for years. While the show was never quite a spectacular, its circumstances are far shabbier than they once were, and Tino Ponce, who runs Circo Mexico, struggles to keep it afloat. Ponce's parents trusted him to carry on the family's performing tradition, and he's brought his own children into the show as he tries to keep the dream alive. But Ponce's wife is no longer convinced that the show should go on, and he's caught between following the dream instilled in him by his folks or following his wife's wishes and moving on to a career with a more stable future. Circo follows Ponce and his carnival as they travel the back roads, offering a bit of tarnished showbiz glamour at each stop while struggling to keep the tradition from fading out. Circo was an official selection at the 2010 Los Angeles Film Festival. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

Eusebio de Haro Espinosa was a young man from Mexico who slipped over the U.S. border into Texas and was desperate for a drink of water when he happened upon the home of Samuel Blackwood. Later the same day, seventy-year-old Blackwood shot and killed Espinosa; some reports say Blackwood and his wife were chasing the young man in their car when he was killed, while Blackwood's friends and family insist the death was the result of an accident. When Blackwood's case came to trial, it was discovered that part of his initial indictment paperwork had gone missing -- including a key passage concerning weapons -- and eventually the elderly man was released with a suspended sentence, while Espinosa's family insist racism is to blame for their son's death and the failure to bring Blackwood to justice. Filmmakers John Sheedy, David Eckenrode and John Eckenrode examine the Eusebio de Haro Espinosa case in El Inmigrante, a documentary which focuses on the realities of illegal immigration in America -- overworked border guards who feel more compassion than anger towards their charges, amateur vigilantes who discuss their fears of who may be coming into America, and Espinosa's family in Mexico who talk about the young man's death and what prompted him to leave his home. El Inmigrante was screened as part of the 2006 New York Latino Film Festival. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

Heather Graham stars in this indie exploration of love and marital commitment directed by Lisa Krueger. A hardcore believer in the sanctity of marriage, plucky Joline (Graham) is stunned when her husband Carl (Luke Wilson) abruptly dumps her, leaving only a vaguely-worded note to explain himself. Undaunted, Joline leaves New York to look for her man and discovers him in the wild west of El Paso, Texas, after meeting a bevy of ne'er-do-wells and weirdos along the way. She discovers that Carl is shacked up with a beautiful Hispanic woman named Carmen (Patricia Velasquez). Meanwhile, Joline's flirtatious brother Jay (Casey Affleck) shows up from the Big Apple to look after his sister. Later, two men enter Joline's life. One is Neil (Goran Visnjic), Carl's hunky, beguiling neighbor, who increasingly becomes the object of Joline's affection, and Grampy (Alfonso Arau), an aging Mexican medicine man who becomes Joline's spiritual guide. This film was screened at the 2000 Sundance Film Festival. ~ Jonathan Crow, Rovi
