The German Doomed Love deals not with a dying romance, but one which is already dead. Professor Bill Rice can't get over the demise of his true love. There is nothing for him to do but muse over the possibility of reviving the decedent so that she can return to his arms. At 75 minutes, the fantastic elements of this curious film are never permitted to get out of hand. A financial success (and multi-award winner) in Europe, Doomed Love has yet to receive much of a showcase in the States. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Impostors is a low-budget, hard-to-figure independent film by director Mark Rappaport. The actors intentionally parrot lines in an emotionless fashion as the story about two seemingly murderous, vaudeville magicians unfolds. Chuckie (Charles Ludlam) and Mikey (Michael Burg) borrow from models like Peter Lorre characters or the Marx Brothers in their antics. Their assistant Tina (Ellen McElduff) is of a dual sexual persuasion, apparently. One of her liaisons (Peter Evans) turns out to be a bit of an imposter himself but a lot can be forgiven because of the cash that comes with him. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, All Movie Guide

In this film, outspokenly homosexual filmmaker Rosa von Praunheim has documented his encounters with friends in the New York "underground" arts movement, the better-known of whom are William Burroughs (who says nothing for the camera), Andy Warhol (seen in the distance) and Fernando Arrabal (who is interviewed in Spanish). The emigrants named in the title are notable Germans who left the country before World War II, such as Greta Keller and Grete Mosheim. Reviewers at the time of the film's release considered it to have been a sort of paid vacation for the filmmaker rather than a serious effort. ~ Clarke Fountain, All Movie Guide
