Rob Schrab Movies
The co-mastermind (along with partner in crime Dan Harmon) behind one of the most beloved failed television pilots never to make it to the small screen, admitted nerd and independent filmmaker Rob Schrab has a dream, to have the creative control over his projects that will allow him to buck the system and create the products that he himself would like to see. Whether producing a film, television show, or comic book, Schrab's desire to entertain in a variety of media is as genuine as it is inspiring. A longtime fan of comics who eventually decided to try his own hand at the popular art form, Schrab created Scud the Disposable Assassin before making the move to Los Angeles and joining forces with Harmon to create the outlandish television pilot Heat Vision and Jack for FOX. Though the half-hour episode, featuring Jack Black as a former astronaut whose brain swells with the rising sun and who fights crime alongside his former roommate-turned-motorcycle (voiced by Owen Wilson), ultimately failed to make the airwaves, underground copies began circulating heavily, making Heat Vision and Jack something of a cult hit among the cinema bizarre set. A second crack at filmmaking resulted in the equally bizarre Robot Bastard!, and, seeing the potential in their strange creations, Schrab and Harmon soon began expanding their filmmaking experiments to include submissions from outsiders as part of the so-called "Super Midnight Movie Show." The increasingly popular monthly film festival soon receiving more submissions than the overwhelmed pair were able to keep up with, it was next time to expand their creation to the Internet in the form of Channel 101 -- a web-based entertainment channel that allowed independent filmmakers to cut loose with their creativity in whatever manner they saw fit. In addition to appearing onscreen in such comedy shorts as Soul Mates and LaserFart, Shrab also turned in a memorable cameo in the indie flick spoof My Big Fat Independent Movie. In early 2006 Schrab would once again re-team with Harmon to write and direct a pilot for Comedy Central starring irreverent comedienne Sarah Silverman. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide
A clumsy panda bear becomes an unlikely kung fu hero when a treacherous enemy spreads chaos throughout the countryside in this animated martial arts adventure featuring the voices of Jack Black, Dustin Hoffman, Angelina Jolie, and Jackie Chan. On the surface, Po (voice of Black) may look like just another portly panda bear, but beneath his fur he bears the mark of the chosen one. By day, Po works faithfully in his family's noodle shop, but by night he dreams of becoming a true master of the martial arts. Now an ancient prophecy has come to pass, and Po realizes that he is the only one who can save his people from certain destruction. With time running short and malevolent snow leopard Tai Lung (Ian McShane ) closing in, Furious Five legends Tigress (Jolie), Crane (David Cross ), Mantis (Seth Rogen), Viper (Lucy Liu), Monkey (Chan), and their wise sensei, Master Shifu (Hoffman), all draw on their vast knowledge of fighting skills in order to transform a lumbering panda bear into a lethal fighting machine. Originally aired on Channel 101, director Rob Schrab's surreal internet series comes home in this release featuring all five episodes of Twiggers Holiday. Somewhere between Pee-Wee's Playhouse and H.R. Pufnstuf exists Twiggers Holiday, a strange world populated by hyperactive prepubescent boys, smoking hot moms, strange robots, and outrageous puppets. A suburban home has become physically animated by a vengeful human soul looking to stir up trouble from beyond the grave, and it's up to three adventurous kids from the neighborhood to do battle with the structural golem in this comically frightful tale, directed by Gil Kenan and featuring the voices of Steve Buscemi, Nick Cannon, Maggie Gyllenhaal, and Kevin James. DJ Harvard (voice of Mitchel Musso) lives directly across the street from a most unusual house. A malevolent entity that longs to feed on the energy of the living, the once peaceful house that looms ominously outside of DJ's bedroom window would like nothing more than the chance to feast on the children of the neighborhood. As Halloween begins to draw near and the children of the neighborhood prepare for another long night of trick-or-treating, it appears as if it may be the house that is in for the biggest treat of all. All those movies the snotty clerk at the video store keeps telling you to rent get raked over the coals in this over-the-top satiric comedy. Harvey (Eric Hoffman) and Sam (Neil Barton) are a pair of identically black-suited hitmen who have been assigned to take part in a conceptually disastrous robbery in Las Vegas. Harvey and Sam are supposed to pick the other members of their crew en route; however, by accident they end up with Johnny Vince (Darren Keefe), a would-be jazz musician with chronic woman problems, and try to compensate by taking a hostage, Julianne (Paget Brewster), a discount store drone who tells all within earshot about her a lousy marriage and dreams of a better life. As Harvey, Sam, and their unwilling companions hit the road to Sin City, they cross paths with an aggressively cheerful French girl named Anomalie (Ashley Head), a possible murderer with a really bad memory (Brian Krow), a German redhead who's always running somewhere (Regina Berger), a Mexican gunman with a guitar case and a poor command of English (Manolo Travieso), and an awful lot of sensitive and articulate lesbians. My Big Fat Independent Movie was scripted by Chris Gore, who helped document the rise of the independent movement in the 1980s and '90s as founder of the magazine Film Threat (feel free to read as much irony into that as you wish). ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide
